Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down the brand new DC movie The Flash. Throughout this video we'll be going over what happens in it, the comic book influences, all those cameos and what the ending means for the future.

Now the movie itself is loosely based on the book flashpoint by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. In order to understand what was going on at the time in comics we have to first travel back all the way to Crisis on Infinite Earths which was released back in 1985. This mega event came at a time when comics had kinda spiraled out of control and all the multiversal iterations were getting a bit much to keep one contained continuity. Thus they had this big crisis event that allowed for them to kill off some of the characters and also streamline the canon into one thing.
Now one of the major events that happened in this was the death of Barry Allen who ran so fast that he seemingly died. Wally West then took over and he became the scarlett speedster for about 20 years. For a long time it seemed like Barry Allen was dead but Grant Morisson ended up bringing him back in Final Crisis which allowed Geoff Johns to use the character on his own run.

Well that George Clooney scene killed it for me. I don't like the George Clooney version of batman. And I'm kind of upset they didn't get a new actor. So is Clooney gonna be the batman in jame gun verse? Why?? I also think they should have done a trilogy instead of heading straight to the multiverse. I'm kind of tired of studios shoving 2 second cameos from old films in our face. Just give us original stories. I still had a blast watching the film. Still can't believe they killed Keaton batman. Oof.

Maybe their is physical evidence at the crime scene. Maybe they will confess. Any real human would try to find out, especially if they're a superhero.

The Spaghetti explanation was a really good way of explaining the multiverse and how sometimes the worlds can be exactly the same and sometimes they can be wildly different, and sometimes they can be the same in certain ways but not in other ways.

Yeah I don’t think the ending of this movie is the DCU but spaghetti explanation gives viewers an explanation that DCU intersected the DCEU in ways to explain why some characters look the same and certain events are still canon (Peacemaker and Waller cast). The DCU is a different strand but at times intersected the DCEU.

I am not really a big fan of gunn new reboot, like wtf it is so messy. With the pattinson batman and they are going to cast a new older batman. And superman they are going to cast a newer and younger version, when henry could have been the superman in the future. But no, reboot everything and have to watch characters that nobody really have interest in. lol Im guessing it is due to superhero fatigue as well, there is just too many now.

@@zechrojas2202 the CG did look weird, but in my mind I saw it as how the Flash/Barry would see people moving slow through time. CG Characters looked frozen at times and I think they meant to do that. It takes a lot of work just to get one face looking right, now imagine, well in this case we see how it’s hard to do multiple CG effects with all those characters at once. It reminded me of the Matrix Revolutions CG fight scenes and how those characters. But for me in the end it didn’t bother me.

Very uneven but the pros outweigh the cons. Finally one of the better DC films in the last few years. Miller has his problems but he did very well in this film differentiating the two versions of himself. Michael Keaton was also good. Story was very good. A real proper super hero story. CGI was crap. Great to see a few of the cast reunited. Started a bit off the boil but built up really well. That ending. Damn. Very definition of a tear jerker.

I think Supergirl was fantastic! The look, the gestures, the attitude. Of course, she's in the smaller height, but I guess that was to balance with the rest of the leading actors. I admit I was a bit disappointed with her death, but, this is the multiverse, so, she can be "brought back". Specially when we don't know the future of TJL. Nevertheless, she was fantastic!

I give it an 8.5, he was able to capture a son's love for his mother and the bye at the end brought me to tears. He's off the rails in real life but is actually a good actor. He's still 30 years old, if he matures and gets the right help, and opens up about his mental illness then he deserves a 2nd chance. Look how Robert Downing Jr transformed himself and became the Ironman everyone loves so much. Our society needs to practice forgiveness and create environments for people not have to walk around with so much shame

Really enjoyed this film and love the tone, storytelling and action. Keaton still has it and nailed it as a older Bruce. Hope Calle's Supergirl stays in The DCU because she's greatmand brings a lot of her. Them as a human aside Miller is great and plays the different Barrys so well. Some Bad CGI aside This is a great film and i think the ending with George is a way to not have Miller As Barry anymore.

The leaked plot of 2022 does say reverse flash hints were there, but seeing the change in direction of management at dc, I think they removed that bit and have left it open ended. If someone who is a casual viewer and doesn't follow dc, they would be questioning how it happened which is never explained here. Weird but this movie may not have a continuation in my view.

It was an awesome movies, and I am not bothered by some of the cheesy CGI. I agree multiverse has been done on multiple movies, but the Flash took a different approach that I have not heard about before. It’s always been a straight shot alternate time branch. The Christopher Reeve scene was awesome, as I grew up watching these versions a a youth. I don’t consider it a bad thing. This is a great movie. I’ll watch it again.

Some parts of the films seemed fresh or seemed new on the screen. I loved how they showed the perspective of a speedster running way above the speed of sound/at the speed of light. I just hope the film gets better ticket sales so we can get a sequel (by that time I hope they'll have more time for post-production)

This is just perfect timing, i just watched The Flash a couple of hours ago and for the most part i enjoyed this movie. As someone who has seen the animated counterpart (Flashpoint Paradox) this was surprisingly a good adaptation. I thought the cameos were a bit too much (some of which people aren't going to understand) and i was slightly taken a back by them. I felt the first half was choppy and messy to say the least and like you said it falls into place once we meet Michael Keaton's "Bruce Wayne/Batman". And the biggest thing that felt like it just made this movie (experience) worse was definitely the CGI. Whenever they have CGI in this film 80%-90% of the time it's not good for 2023 and by this i mean it feels like they worked on this movie in the early 2000's when the technology wasn't that good. It's just not a great experience in that regards and you can definitely tell when it's CGI. Overall i had fun & if you're a fan of the animated "Flashpoint Paradox" movie you probably will end up enjoying this movie. I would give this a solid 7/10 and mostly because of its choppy pacing in the first half and most of it is because of the CGI otherwise i would bump it up to a 7.5/10, and it's definitely not the best comic book movie ever made.

The Flash should NOT be dark. Whether it's Barry or Wally, Flash should be about redemption, friends and family, fun, and running faster than he's ever run before. Yes, Batman brings the darkness but Flash should be the light to counter the dark. And Batman really is the only one who should be dark in the DC main roster.

100% agree with your take on this, I felt the same way about it. I also felt some of the more pivotal scenes did not live up to the magnitude of the moment like when young Barry protects older Barry, I thought there would have been more of a battle between the 3 of them or the end when he goes back to say goodbye to his mom and remove the tomato can from her cart. As a parent I would recognize my kids instantly so it was a bit laughable his mom didn’t recognize him just because he had shorter hair 😂 but I think the worst thing about this movie was Barry not learning anything and putting the can higher on shelf for the camera to pick up his dads face. The Clooney cameo was cool and all but he basically sacrificed Batfleck for his dad, like he literally learned nothing and the whole movie felt pointless at that point. I get it doesn’t matter because a lot of things are going to get rebooted but still sucks IMO. Calle and Keaton were great, wish we got more of her Supergirl.

If he is going to be an older batman in the dcu, it would be nice if he wore the batman beyond suit to show his final 5 to 8 years as batman before he retires to set up the batman beyond movie franchise. Keaton or clooney, that arc from the dcu to the batman beyond franchise could be a 5 to 7 movie arc. Better start setting it up before either of these guys drop dead like chadwick and the black panther franchise gets emasculated.

I think Gunn wouldn't touch anything and leave everything as it is now but use THE IDEA that Barry's time travel change things in every universe , like in that earth Barry is now Aquaman is same but not the Batman so in that same way in Gunn's new DC universe some old characters will look the same but many characters would be different...

I think if the CGI was better for Christopher’s scene it would have been beautiful, because to me, he is the Superman I grew up with so for them to have everyone and not include him would have probably made people upset. I just wish it looked better.

Saw it last night. I was happy to see Keaton Batman again on the big screen as he’s the one I grew up on. I don’t think he’s the same one from the burton movies but it was sad seeing him die but at least he did his thing going out a hero. Supergirl on the hand I liked a lot but I think they made her weak. She threw a bunch of punches and it didn’t do much to Zod which all he did was throw one double punch and it was over for her. All Barry had to do was warn her of his knife thingy. Other than that it was a solid film. Great performance from Ezra despite his off screen issues. Def won’t be seeing him again.

The CGI was so bad at parts that I’m convinced it was a stylistic choice to make it sort of cartoon like. CGI Nic Cage was brilliant! His superman movie would have sucked badly had it ever been released, but it sort of worked in an elseworlds sort of way in this one.

My only problem with this movie is how they handled the og flash's power return. It's silly that him getting struck by lightning again would give him the same power (different conditions to the lab scene). I'd prefer if he dies in the attempts, and the younger flash has to figure out what to do (thus, more time for his character development).

It was the same conditions he just didn't get a strong enough jolt which is why Kara had to carry his chemically scarred-covered body to the clouds to finish it. Also no we are tired of people dying and coming back to life in movies.

I absolutely loved it! The CGI was pretty janky at times but it's fine. I just hope it gets polished for the online/blu-ray releases (and no undermining the staff please DC) and I wish we got to see Michelle's Catwoman here 🥲😭 It was a blast seeing everyone here and I really had fun watching it 💛❤⚡ It's a shame the og cast will be trplacef though...still looking forward to the future of the new DCEU 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Probably my favorite flash just because of how he is on screen, the movie was amazing and i was enjoyable to watch and I hope we get to see more of sasha's supergirl and I am so confused on the ending because I don't even know who that batman was.

I just came out of theaters for this movie, and I pretty much agree with everything you said. Personally, the CGI didn't take me out of the film, but I did note that so many of the characters looked fake. There was even a scene of main Barry telling other Barry something near the end and main Barry looked fake. I was biased, because I've been so hyped for this, but I was able to separate Ezra's controversy from the film, and I really, really enjoyed it. Sasha Calle is now mommy, and goddamn George Clooney is a beautiful man. lmao

Also, if anyone questions why Young Barry dying, who I named Kid Flash, doesn't kill our Barry, it's because he's an entirely different person. Our Barry essentially traveled to an alternate timeline. Think of it like our Barry jumped to the KeatonVerse, where a version of him is still the Flash, yet it's a different Barry than ours. Young Barry dying killed Dark Flash because Young Barry was the younger version of Dark Flash and our Barry is from a separate timeline where events have already played out, whereas the events of The Flash directly result in Young Barry becoming Dark Flash. Time travel is confusing, but it's pretty simple when you break it down. Just wanted to explain this briefly because there's already some confusion about why Young Barry dying didn't erase our Barry.

I think you are spot on about what bugged me about movie. 1. Ezra hello my fellow kids routine as younger Barry. Which I cant fully fault him on because I'm sure trying to act 18 is weird,but still he could have went to andy like bruh we need to tweak this lol. Also somebody brought up how he sounded different in this one vs justice league. Which I also noticed it seemed different. Also the cgi was pretty wonky over all which I agree with. I also think it picked up during Keaton. Highlights was him,the lady that played supergirl I hope she comes back. Also that random ass nick cage cameo lol. Also enjoyed the fight scenes quite a bit. Disappointing that keaton wont be coming back as of now,but who knows. I'd give it a 7.5 little above average to the point where I didnt regret seeing it in threaters,but I could have also waited till aug or Sept for it to be rented.
