I’m so glad season 4 is finally getting some appreciation, in the past I used to always see people saying that the last good season was season 3 but s4 was just as good as s1-s3 imo, the writing was solid, the effects were great for the budget they had, there was genuine character development and all that. Idk if this is a hot take or not but I didn’t like the inclusion of Flash’s future daughter in s5, the connection between her and Barry felt pretty forced after the first few episodes.

Honestly, Despero was actually one of few good villains post season 4 imo (the other Bloodwork). Despero is moreso a moreso an antagonist than a villain given his attempt of saving the world being overzealous. Bloodwork along those lines but more twisted. Despero actually has a very adaptive list of abilities and Bloodwork has the factor of having to fight a hive mind. Sadly, Eric Wallace quickly realized he wrote compelling foes so they were used little.

Back when the villains were actually intimidating and had no real weakness except for a miscalculation at the end. Reverse-Flash not accounting for Eddie, Zoom telling him what a Time Remnant was because he didn’t think Barry would kill, Savitar not checking if it was really Iris despite knowing about illusion technology, and DeVoe not keeping his security up due to his overconfidence. All these villains could have easily won should they not have slacked a bit in the end. Villains now are just flat out boring or power-hungry with a sad-sob backstory. I want villains that are just evil because they can be, because they want to.
