I did see the video, but disagree. Drill Bit maybe a bad pun but it's so much more. It's not just the fact that the name and flavor make the card but also the art and what the card actually does is important as well. This card is one of the best example of flavor(the what makes this card unique flavor) . Every aspect is relatable to the other. Not alot of cards do that. From the Name to Function to Flavor Text this card is a win, and in my opinion is great comedy. I'm sorry that you felt I commented and with out watching the video, but Drill Bit is a "Bit" BETTER than Might of Oaks.
@ziziorens3485 жыл бұрын
D. Walter III oh, thank you for such a thorough answer! You exactly pin-pointed all of my thoughts about the card. I, too, think it’s a perfection of the card in terms of relatability to itself. Just layer after layer of comedy in such a minuscule amount of words.

I have to say, I'm blown away by the meticulous care that went into writing, producing, and editing every part of this video. There have been multiple times where I have to pause and rewind it simply due to the fact that I want to fully absorb the elements you've included. The content is so dense that in the span of seconds, I detect several witty jokes, in-my-face editing featuring both MTG and non-MTG references, and an abstractly developed interwoven dual plotline starring the man StandUpPoet himself delivering charismatic soliloquies. The best part is that you maintain this quality throughout the entirety of a 27 minute video, which is unreal to me. I look forward to any new videos you put out there on the internet for humble comedy enthusiasts such as myself to enjoy.

Yes Concordia Pegasus, the white card that made me focus on blue decks because the text was so funny. I think storytelling in flavor is an interesting topic, Doomed Artist being one of my favorites because it’s a card that tells a full story through its name, art, mechanics, and flavor text.
@DragonCompany15 жыл бұрын
I keep coming back to this video, and continue to find it worth noting in my head (and now for the world to see) that "boring" does have a definition that isn't synonymous with "drilling". In certain situations, it specifically refers to the enlarging of a hole already in existence. This is what I took it to mean on my first reading and, as such, I had not qualms with the joke.

@chazaqiel63044 жыл бұрын
I know that this is a bit late, but drill bit's flavor text is perfect. To bore a hole, you just increase the size of said hole. So it being "never boring" is perfect because it's saying it's exciting and they'll always be making a new hole

After telling the audience that it took five tries, you might as well have stitched it together, making it clear for the audience that it took multiple recordings. I feel there is some strength to the pun of Drill bit just being two words. its almost got the cheese of the art. A bad punchline, ala Root of all Greevils. Your replacement joke kinda feels weak because it's so stretched out. (it also loses the 2 word pun mirror with the title.) For another example: "Try not to get bored." kinda feels like a pretty standard magic card flavor text. The loss of the 2 word punch hurts. here are my attempts to keep it short: "Getting bored?" "Boring!" "Never Dull" "Twist Ending" "to the point" "Riveting" "Cranked up" Cheating with more words can help though, with flavor or world-building at the cost of impact: "Try not to get bored - Advise to first time viewers" is nowhere near as snappy, but I can see the scene of the Rakdos father buying the tickets and slapping his increasingly concerned, raised-by-Ohrizov-mother-but-is-staying-over-for-the-weekend, son on the shoulder dispensing this sage wisdom shepherding him into the front row. "Shouting 'Boring!' at a Rakdos event is a daring form of audience participation." just adding a 'Fantastic' to Twist ending makes it sound like a play review. or "Look out for the twist ending" "Hopefully it's not dull" is nonsensical enough if you miss the titles pun, like i did, that you might reread the card for context getting that groan that all good puns come with AND has 2 layers to the pun. Or just go FULL PUN OVERLOAD where you sacrifice humor for MAXIMUM PUNS PER FLAVORTEXT(shamelessly reusing jokes from just seconds ago which just makes the twice as funny, of course): "Agonizing performances with a dull and boring twist ending. It was riveting! --Surviving Audience Member" uses rule of 3 AND world building. "he BORE witness to one HELL of a TWIST ending." is probably my most groan-worthy one. Anyone else got ideas? i'm tapped out.

From now on I will only be referring to H.P. Lovecraft as "Mr. Racism".
@WowItsErin5 жыл бұрын
@Jojoforpres Oh I'm not playing favorites. I'm playing *least* favorites. H.P. Lovecraft was racist even by the standards of the time. His special breed of racism was far from casual, and far from the common. While most racists of the time (particularly in Europe) were of the opinion that the races were "equal, but meant to be separate", Lovecraft believed wholeheartedly that the poor, the deformed, and the people of color, were all subhuman. I understand that to some degree, being a racist was the common mindset of the late 1800s and early 1900s, and (while not excusable) it was often an unavoidable fate for most White Artists. But Lovecraft wasn't exactly like most people. I understand your sentiment, and agree to some degree, but... Yeah. There's all that.

@@WowItsErin but don't you get it? If it's common it's above criticism! Commie Commander here, Spice, you’ve crafted such a spellbinding video, I almost tapped out just from laughing! Your humor may be less of a Divine Gambit and more of a Mono Black flavor, but I can Planes-walk in your shoes and respect it. Still, a good pun is a Mox Opal of comedy-it might cost zero, but it’s priceless. Watching this video was like drawing three cards with a Brainstorm-a real flash of inspiration! You may be here to counterspell puns, but I think they’re mana-ging to stick around regardless. After all, comedy isn’t just about what lands, but also what draws people in. Puns may not be the most legendary form of humor, but they have hexproof against any amount of criticism! They’re a real Goblin Guide to the heart, always sneaking in for a laugh attack. I guess you could say they’re an instant-classic. At the end of the day, fun is the ultimate win condition.
