Thanks so much for this excellent series! I have learned a valuable part of the story of the Irish, of course nowhere near what we were taught in England growing up. Such a complex, tragic, sad story - with much more sorrow and struggle to come before the Irish regained their rightful place as an independent nation.

The journey of the Earls to Rome is not covered in such detail frequently, its certainly undercovered in a lot of circles, so fair play for covering it.

One has to womder what would've happened if O'neill managed to get his plot to return to Ireland into action and succeeded in getting back to Ireland with support possibly from the Pope with a number of possibly German, Switz and Spainish mercs and the possible return of the Irish battalions fighting for Spain. With such a force I don't think many lords or nobles in Ireland mainly Ulster would've tried to oppose him with the fear of the punishment and retribution for jumping ship to the English side. I'd say the fear would've been wide spread too going all the way to England and one wonders what would the English reaction be politically and militarily, I also suspect some Catholic Scots may have joined the ranks of O'neills returning army and that army possibly swelling in numbers to possibly 20,000 mainly mercs and the Irish battalions who fought for Spain. Great Episode Handy and a great series now what's next I wonder.

Catholicism is the worst tragedy to befall Ireland. The Pope would have been pure liability.

This is fascinating I never knew this. I saw on a video on KZbin that someone said the red hand of ulster was because the high king chopped his hand off and threw it to clam his land. I just wanted to find out how true that is

The maps and icons are designed in Photoshop. Then everything is imported to Adobe Premiere and animated using keyframes. Hope this helps!

@@johnoneal1234 true, they could have stayed, but at what cost
@johnoneal1234
@johnoneal1234 Жыл бұрын
I don't think they could have stayed, that's what makes it simple. The Europeans didn't attaint their titles, they knew exactly who they were and they were accepted into the nobility. From that basis, additional titles were created in recognition of services rendered in either the military or civil government. Most sons of most major houses served in one European Army or another, and so it became a common pattern.

I did a little research on my Irish clan's coat of arms- turns out it was granted by the Crown(!?) to a British civil servant of the same last name in the 1860's..

Some coat of arms will have variants. Usually because a part of the clan will have split off. In this case, the Murphy's of Kerry/Cork split off from the Wexford clan and created the variant with the lion and the tree.

When I see products advertised exclusively by blacks, I assume they don't want to sell to us white folks. I've saved a fortune by not giving money to people who hate me and would love me not to be alive anymore.

I think O’Neill acted cowardly by leaving his son behind and threatening his wife. Real men protect their wives and children, not save their own skins at their wives’ and childrens’ expense.

its interesting isnt it, I read that he left his pregnant wife behind, she was then captured and detained by English black nobility, made to submiss and his child was raised under their institution.
