My dad got some cheap aluminum heatsinks and zip tied good fans just like RGHD did to the 970. I don't think that card ever passed 55c after that lmao. I gotta see if that card is still sitting in a box somewhere.

I think the 5700 is a typo. Min vram for amd is 4gb, which doesnt exist on the 5700, BUT it does exist on the 570, which is also roughly in the same performance class as the gtx 970

G'day @jlmpc8733, yeah I had the same thought in the "Day 1 Disaster" video but Péter Friedrich said he tried his RX580 & it failed to load as Polaris is DX12.0 & MS2024 requires DX12.1 which nVIDIA introduced Sep 19th, 2014 with GTX970/980 & AMD Jul 7th, 2019 with RX5700/5700XT So going by that he AMD GPU that would be Closest to 4GB + DX12.1 would be RX5500XT (or RX5300XT OEM/5500 OEM - RX5500XT with Different Clock Speeds)

@@shaneeslick I wonder if it would run on linux on polaris cards since that would use dx12->vulkan translation rather than native dx12 and polaris cards have support for all of the vulkan extension other than the ray tracing stuff in the radv linux driver as far as I know. (Well technically they can do emulated ray tracing with RADV as well but it's not very usable)

@@olnnn 🤔Very interesting, it would be a very good question for the Level1 Linux Forum, I don't know much about Linux but considerining how MS is going to even greater lengths of 💩 with each new Gen & Steam now getting better support I am at the point now I really want to learn, I have bought myself a combo to build a spare PC to learn with, so if I F UP real bad 🤷‍♂Start again 😂. While I don't specifically play Flight Sims it may affect other games soon too so Linux/Vulcan may be something Polaris owners need to look into in an effort to keep persevering like Maxwell/Pascal owners that even "fine wine" can't fix.

​@@shaneeslick Yeah the main vulkan drivers for AMD cards on linux support all of the RADV cards and all of the GCN cards so even the Radeon HD 7970 has full vulkan 1.3 support which is pretty cool so one might be able to get more life out of them there than on windows.

Nice video I've been on the lookout for someone testing the bottom end. I've got the opposite issue with a weaker quad core CPU (i7 4790) but a stronger GPU with the 2060. Theae results give me hope as your CPU looked like it was... cruising. So hopefully the quad core will have a fighting chance.

Best thing to do is to just test the games with whatever hardware you have, that way you know whether you'll need to upgrade components or not. IMO there's not much difference between a 4790 and the 7700/7700K, which was the last Intel i7 to still only have 4 cores.

Next time you go thru Rochester station, the big glass building on the seaward side of the line is where Dovetail Games are who work a lot of MSFS stuff and also developed Train Simulator, Bassmaster and other fishy games, you should wander in and do a feature on 'em as they are pretty cool folks including a couple of "gods" from Electronic Arts running the place.

Not bad, and I'm surprised that a modern game will even run reasonably well on a GTX 970! Given that a 2080 is recommended, I'd have personally declared either the 6GB 1060, or the 1070, as the minimum, and not the 970 to be honest, as the 970 is starting to show its age with these titles. But hey, 30fps at 1080p low (with a bit of FSR) isn't terrible for such a card.

Something to remember.. flight simulator is the one game type where locked 30 fps is just as playable and enjoyable as 60fps. The only time you'll notice at all is when you pan around. Just cruising you'll never notice. Also, this is the perfect application for frame Gen. Lots to be said about how low a frame rate you can get away on this one.

Always like a bit o' Kentish countryside, I grew up on what was Gravesham airport now called Riverview Park nestled on the edge of Gravesend towards Higham, every saturday if weather was fine I would be out on my trusty purple Chopper riding down into the wilds of Kent with a flask and packed lunch and a free train ride back because I was knackered and the hill above Strood was just too much for my lickle legs back then, father worked for BR so getting a train to drop me off at Milton Range halt was no bother and then a wander up to home and dinner.

Whenever there are lists of most demanding games, not sure why this game doesn't top it all (with regards to the 2020 version as well). For FS2024, I saw it drop to 18fps on a system with a 4090.

My Ryzen 5 2600 is still a pretty good CPU, playing everything I want it to from Skull & Bones, Diablo 4, Starfield and of course Forza 4 and 5 Horizons at pretty good settings, its just about to get a new home as bought a a550 mobo with an eye to 5xxx CPU in the new year my a320 just won't cope well with a 5xxx CPU. Went with Asrock as usual, always worked well with Asrock stuff and liking the ultra m.2 thingy and the 4.0 pcie x16 and full bandwidth at 3.0 which my a320 seems to struggle maintaining under load. There is a Ryzen 5 2400g on CEX that might interest you, quite cheap too.

@0:23 Better optimized for Nvidia is a word for it alright. The gtx 970 == rx 480, the rx 5700 is more or less 100% faster than the rx 480. It better saying they did not list or test anything below a rx 5700.

A 5700X3D would literally double framerate with the same GPU. Unsurprisingly, this is far more CPU intensive than most games. However, it seems to get fairly GPU heavy at low altitudes, which is also not surprising. I also suspect that this will be another one of those titles that still gives mediocre performance, even with a top of the line PC.

I will stick to my modded Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition. Does it look as good as this game can? No. Does it have planes modded in that I love and it looks good enough? Yes. That said, with everything for graphics cranked up, on a Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 2080 Super, good frame rates can be a struggle STILL depending on what plane I fly. That said, if I turn down the Anti-Aliasing I would likely have less issues.

Ive been collecting. building. testing pcs and hardware for 30 + years now and Not a single gpu has caused a broken board. slot etc. Not a one. I have some Really heavy cards too.. you would need to Try to do that or have some serious Pull from the cables and it not be screwed into the case to do that.Only way to Break it would be to Drop the system, hence th4ey get damaged in transport. Heck, my water cooled 1080ti flops around and no issues.

@@ungeneer1506 First the MS store woes, second the huge downloads (just installing the standard deluxe version took around 24 hours) , next the mandatory updates (which would the usually effect game stability), and finally the games stability (eventually the game won't load properly, for no apparent reason and then start crashing, once this happens it's not long before you have a game that refuses to run and that then needs to be totally reinstalled). Conclusion, actual game playing time - less then 24 hours , install and dealing with game issues total time - around 50 - 60 hours.
