@@Dr.Pootis This has so many existential implications, it means that eventually /all/ of creation will be the Floods domain. This isn't your regular enemy, like a singular foe working as a cog in a greater machine. This is a force of nature, the Flood is the inevitability of death given sentience. The consequences of mortality are such that it can never be stopped, and it very well knows this. The gravemind references this fact, "defeat is only the addition of time to a sentence i never deserved. I ebb and flow like water, through rock and metal and time." (roughly paraphrased) The Flood is a ceaseless tidal wave of flesh, with a singular timeless goal of absolute conquest.

With their backs against the Wall, Ancient Humanity dug deep and found the courage to fight harder than ever. It's said the only reason that Humanity lost their war with the forerunners is because they tried to focus on the greater threat of the Flood. Such resilience is why the Forerunners chose Humanity to be their successors. Even as Human worlds were lost to the Forerunners, The Flood was pushed back. And only after Humanity was defeated and de-evolved, did the Flood return. Imagine that. The Flood, a highly intelligent Hive mind who's intellect only grows as they consume more. With the ability to manipulate Neural Physics when they get large enough. Impossible to exterminate. And they never forget anything. A endless wave of Bio-mass that consumes all...and it was afraid. Afraid of the one race that it could never beat. Afraid of the Humans who fought it past a standstill. And would have won if not for the Forerunners. They fear the rise of their old enemy once more. Fear the return of the race who grew stronger as the Flood fought it. They fear Humanity's return. They are afraid that their ancient enemy will arise once more, stronger than ever before.

@@galbert117 it's not even that they didn't know. It was told in one of the books (I forget) that the forerunners knew of the parasite but didn't consider it a threat (the parallels between Halo and today are astonishing man). The Forerunners and Ancient Humans had a deep rivalry and resentment of each other so when it looked like they were invading, the Forerunners had the "we're defending ourselves against their onslaught" to justify their war. When the Forerunners did find out about the parasite they bunched it with Humans as another sub conflict with fighting humans. "... And now you bring this sickness on our shores." Ur-Didact, Forerunner Supreme Commander. The only time they realized the flood was a potent foe was near the end of the war when the humans were practically facing extinction. They didn't care about the reasons the humans were invading, just that they were invading. It's comparable to when the Mongols invaded the Roman Empire. Iirc the humans tried to send diplomats, but that was far too late during the beginning of the war. The Humans were assholes, but not arrogant. It's also the fact that during the "pre-war" the flood managed to infect faster than the humans to catch up as seen in one of the terminals "... Is it possible we finally got here first?" The humans knew of the Floods imminent and potent danger so they took no risks and sterilized each infected world/ship. Tldr; Basically Humans looked like bad guys and Forerunners were obnoxious assholes fed up with humanity.

@@elipsorange And you once again miss the point: the Precursors allowed the corruption of the "dust" for revenge against the forerunners, saw it as a way to prevent any of their creations from ever turning against them again. Additionally, the entire saga Primordium is a part of originally assumed that humanity had already passed the test, by altering 1/3 of their population with something that would make the flood attack itself after they were infected. However this was later proven false, the Flood purposefully retreated to make the forerunners waste time and resources on a non existent cure, instead of properly rallying against the Flood. @@johnwhite4070 Star Wars is super accessible and easy to enjoy (Much like McDonalds or any other fast food joint). SW also is a very simple universe. All the planets are basically Earth just slightly different (same gravity, same weather, just geographical differences). Every alien is basically a human with a mask on (Rodians, Duros, etc.) or different skin colors (Twileks, Chiss, etc.) Ik that Star Wars isn't alone on this but I'm still counting it against the franchise. Lastly, the stories are incredibly simple for the most part (Some outliers here and there). Most stories basically are just good vs evil which is generic. The villains do evil shit just for the sake of being bad (no one wakes up and says lets do evil deeds). Most villains might as well have a flashing neon sign that says "I'm a bad guy" (Maul, Palpatine, Malgus etc.). Basically it follows the trope of good looking good guys versus the ugly looking bad dudes.

@@Darkestestmatter but I've done my research and I believe if the two species were to engage it would be a very bloody conflict err well tyranids have icor not blood but you get the picture and feasibly depending on the situation it could go either way if the tyranids have more resources and they are dealing with a feral stage outbreak the tyranids no doubt would win because theyd figure out the flood communicate using pheromones and just make creatures that can block said pheromones probably a enhanced strain of malonthrope or venomthrope and they would also be smart enough to know to use their swiftest creatures like warriors and termagaunts my strategy would be to have termagaunts with spike rifles shoot down infection forms while the warriors preferably a venom brood bombard combat forms with heavy ordinance while close combat oriented warriors take out combat forms that get too close with a mix of scything talons and boneswords why boneswords? Because boneswords as said in lore completely destroy the nervous system of whatever creature they get a clean hit on so any combat forms that are brought down cant be revived theyd just be lumps of flesh on the ground and that means the flood won't have any use outside of biomass also warriors have skin harder than diamonds so combat forms arent gonna be braking through that easily.

What terrifies me the most about the flood, and what in my opinion makes them the most menacing yet tragic adversaries to ever be conceived of in Scifi, is the fact that they are a perversion of the very beings that created life as we know it. Imagine that. Imagine how magnificent the Precursors must have been. Neural-Physics, inter-dimensional travel, concepts that have grounds in real life that we can't even begin to grasp. Beings far beyond our comprehension only to be pushed to near extinction by their own creations, and to return as a corrupted and twisted version of what they used to be. Set on consuming and assimilating everything they were responsible for creating in the first place into one singular being. That to me is true horror.

When you finish, definitely go through them again a second time (at least), because there's clues throughout the Forerunner Saga that reveal the nature of the Precursors and the Flood to be even more nuanced than just about any video I've seen on KZbin has said. (Bornstellar sees a Precursor mind in Halo Cryptum after his first mutation, though he doesn't have enough context to understand what he's seeing. Precursors exist "where the twin fists of time uncurl their fingers and join in a clasp, so that nothing changes or ever would." (The twin fists of time are past and future, meaning the Precursors exist as constants, which means the organic forms the Forerunners slaughtered were avatars, and not the true Precursors) This has implications regarding all of the actions taken by the Flood, including its continuous deliberate holding back, and not using it's full combat ability, even against the Forerunners (at least until the Forerunner civilization peaks, and is no longer protected by the Precursors' Mantle).

Considering that the Forerunners were extremely intelligent and knew the strength and weakness of their technology, and considering that the Flood would’ve won the War were it not for the Halo Array firing killing everything. Though if the Flood were to be released in Cortana Galaxy they will spread rapidly and there will be nothing that Cortana or her Created can do anything about it, and considering that they all may be affected by Logic Plague. The Story of the Halo series is an absolutely deep and fascinating story especially when it comes down to the FLOOD. They came nearly within grasp of assimilating almost every lifeform out there! ether-way with their back against the wall they pressed that reset button and reset the entire galaxy back to the beginning of time. Talk about a bummer scenario but maybe everyone will get along this time ...Haha Great job explaining everything by the way dude, you explanations were on point and i didn't hear any discrepancies in the canon or story.

What blows my mind more, is that UNSC don't even Know that ancient Huemans were more technologically advanced than them now. We need the Halo story to come full circle with the return of a few or more Forerunners (maybe Builders), Flood/Precursors, and Huemans finding out their ancient past and finally receiving The Mantle of Responsibility.

Can the Flood create any kind of bio form they want in shape, form, or purpose with enough biomass like Kaiju sized monsters, pure forms that would be able to mimic voices to confuse and lead their enemies into a false sense of safety, cybernetic pureforms, or pureforms that would act as bioships like the Tyranids do?

Theoretically yeah, we've already seen them be able to mutate their pure forms into a variety of shapes and forms to fill different situations. So if the Gravemind felt it necessary, I'm sure he could introduce new mutations into his pure forms to increase their lethality.

Great video I really enjoy "ancient" Halo lore. Only thing about the Prometheans, they were actually the Warrior caste among the Forerunners, they volunteered to be composed into the robotic beings (Knights) so they could better fight the flood, the Didact later composed humans in an attempt to increased the number of Knights when their numbers started to fall.
