The Last Precursor would respond that the dry, hollow corpses were a threat to life in the galaxy, and is almost guaranteed to fight them. Consider the end goals here: the Brethren Moons genuinely exist only to reproduce, intelligent life just being a step in their reproductive cycle. The Gravemind lives for one thing: to clear the galaxy of the forerunners and their 'reclaimers' out of vengeance and spite on an incomprehensibly vast scale. ...That's gotta be a fanfic already, that's too good a story concept not to have been explored by someone. To give the Gravemind character development, by presenting it with something that would truly leave the universe barren, annihilating all the fruits of it's/the Precursors ancient efforts, not out of revenge, but out of base, stupid, and senseless lust.

Flood has 343 Industries , writer Greg Bear and Microsoft which > EA . So EA is a non factor. The fact that the Flood managed to take out the ancient humans and Forerunners in 1,300 years of war. The Necoromorphs took 65 million years to even appear at earth . Starting with the arrival of the Black Marker to earth via asteroid, in the gulf of Mexico, which caused the extinction event of the dinosaurs. From that time, the Marker replicated a signal to guide certain species, mainly primates, into knowledge and become the supreme species to ultimately create civilization, resulting in the evolution of Humans. So it takes the Necromorphs 65 million years to conquer one single planet and they have only done this 11 times . Meaning the species with its brothern moons are only 715,000,000 years old. The Flood/ Precursor are over 100 billion years old. I think we know who has the upper hand here and its not the Necromorphs .

Has anyone still not put the pieces together and considered that the Flood and Precursors are the same entity? Like the Precursors did have the ability to change into any form they wanted to. The Flood just may very well be one of the many forms they could take. It's also been said that the Precursors themselves existed outside of Spacetime which could be one of the reasons why they never defended themselves against the Forerunners because they never had the ability to truly kill the Precursors in the first place. It could also be the fact that they let the Forerunners commit mass genocide of the precursors to further prove that they're not worthy of the mantle. If anyone read the novels, it's been stated multiple times that the Flood did hold back at several instances further proving that the Flood or should I say the Precursors, did actually have a Goal and I find it odd how a Godly civilization thats been stated to be the masters of biology with over 100 billion years of knowledge can just disappear like that, be easily "corrupted", and have themselves be turned into the Flood for absolutely no reason.

Hoo- Dini While i don't know the exact quotes, the events that followed was the Flood withdrew and completely halted all their attacks against humanity after sacrificing a full third of their own population in order to stop the Flood from advancing further throughout the Galaxy. The other part was when the Flood let the Forerunners build the Halo rings and as evidence, they stopped their advancement at some parts during the war to let the Forerunners finish building the last rings.

The scariest thing to me is thinking back on all the gameplay of the first three Halo titles and realizing that for all of H1, the Flood were only in the feral stage, and H2 and H3 was only at the coordinated stage. It took everything that both humanity and the Covenant had to beat the Flood in the original trilogy and they were only half 50% evolution.

@Infamous Potato necromorphs are only killed when you destroy every single cell of the body much like the thing. Severing their limbs just temporarily incapacitates them, they’re still very much alive and just waiting for the marker signal to reconfigure them either into a new form or biomass to be added to the corruption to further its spread. Both flood and nevromorphs exist on a plane that we can’t comprehend but the necros can definitely rival them.

And they're iconic....because people made them iconic. This somehow beats the abilities of the necromorphs? It makes them scarier? No. Dont get me wrong i think the flood are terrifying as are the necromorphs but this is a weak argument...no a non argument. There are certain things about necromorphes that are quite nasty however. Its more small scale but even otherwise healthy humans in close proximity to the markers seem to suffer horribly damaging and pychotic episodes because of the effects of the markers. I think overall though the flood wins simply because of how infectious they are and they assimilate knowledge with every infection.

This actually contains a common misconception about Necromorphs. The thing is, it drives most insane, and while Intelegent persons Appear immune, that's not the case. Intelligent people become obsessed with recreating the markers. It's effects are so slow, that people don't realize the danger until it activates, and Bam, it rewrites your DNA, alive and dead, all at the same time. Most likely, a grave mind would be driven by the interests of the people it consumed to recreate the markers, totally unaware of the danger.

That is not necessarily the case with all intelligent people; it is also people who are considered relatively intelligent who end up surviving the terrors induced from a marker (e.g., Isaac Clarke). Even those who were considered intelligent and did not survive, like doctor Kyne and Vincent, still had no intention to rebuild a marker. Furthermore, it does take some time for a marker's electromagnetic waves to fully change the morphology of its host. Usually, the early caveat for a marker affecting people starts out as a psychosomatic game, ensuing in people becoming suicidal and homicidal, as seen in Dead Space: Downfall. I would not say the intelligent people have a semblance of immunity to the marker; I just think its tole from the electromagnetic waves affects people who have unlocked more modes of their brain as opposed to someone who hasn't, but no matter what, the marker does still induce madness on its host, intelligent or not. The clear indicator for a dumb person being exposed to a marker is arbitrarily hearing noises, whereas an intelligent person would start seeing hallucinations of the encryptions built within the marker. I think the marker slows down the process of one's rational thinking, especially someone who is quick to become irrational, so it can be hard to be seen as a threat if no one else is taking the matter serious when everyone is going crazy. The intelligent ones are usually the last ones standing because they become aware of the danger of what is going on, which explains why Vincent was so ambivalent toward the markers and the colonists' behaviors from the beginning, but that ties back into why it was already too late for them because the marker had already actively been sending electromagnetic waves to everyone on the colony. If all the markers were incinerated from the beginning, this could have all been avoided, but with humanity's vast interests in artifacts, technology, and religious persecution, plague and calamity begets, lol. Tying into the Flood and the Gravemind, I do not believe it would be driven by the interests of anything other than what they are trying to do, which is to take over the galaxy in its entirety by infecting everyone, akin to the necromorphs and the markers. Sure, they use the bodies of a once-living host, but it is all for the interests of the flood. Once the flood transcends its feral state, into the form of a gravemind sanctioning its host as a central intelligence, the gravemind might use the thoughts behind the people who were aware of the marker and what it is capable of doing, but those intentions would be built upon the gravemind's conscious awareness, not its hosts'. In all, though, if the Flood and the Necromorphs encountered each other in a random galaxy, I think they would end up unifying to infect the entire galaxy since that is both their ultimate goal, or they could lead into a grueling conflict I would love to see.

That's different from how both of them work. The Flood is parasitic in nature and gains intelligence and power as it grows, both living and dead are perfect hosts, and it loves to hijack a creature's nervous system. They can grow to planet-sized and have enough power to eradicate entire solar systems in the blink of an eye. The Necromorphs have a specific target, and it's always dead bodies. Their power is set. Their primary ability is psychic in nature. Their max power is a Brethren Moon, and they've got weaknesses. Just because they're both space zombies doesn't mean they're compatible.

I do believe the Flood would still win, given that they weren't in the beginning of the feral stage. Zenomorphs would win in that case, but upon commencement of the coordinated stage, the Flood would win. Given that Zenomorphs can't actually pilot ships or use weapons(though maybe they just choose not to), and that the Zenomorphs could also be assimilated by the Flood, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't even be a fight. And once the Flood reaches the galactic and transgalactic stages, they're all but unstoppable, given that the second most advanced species in the Halo universe were basically raped by the Flood.

We dont really know much about the Brethren moons. Although when it comes down to it they function nearly identical. The Brethren moons are essentially Necromorph Keyminds. so a fight between the too would actually be quite entertaining and possibly end up in stalemate. If Brethren moons are immune to flood cells and if the Flood are immune to Bmoons influence and corruption. The Bmoons could create soliders from its flesh(and being living planetoids it has a lot). Split Was Taken Actually i think doom slayer is resistant if not immune to the flood parasites infection of his nervous system. (He also has a rebreather in his suit lol) The flood infects a hosts nervous system via matching its “frequency” and bonding to it allowing “access”. Now sgt johnson through the spartan 1 program received “side effects” which garbled up his nervous system making a hard time for the flood to bond to him. Doom slayer has fought in hell for literal “Eons” and he is immune to argent energy and actually empowered by it. Argent energy is like a dead space pseudo marker as it releases Lazarus waves which will physically (not just mentally lol) transform any living matter into a demon. Which obviously nearly everyone was transformed into a demon on mars. Also the demons that can resurrect the dead. And the fact that he cannot be possessed in general. (Possession would be a spiritual thing) Now I think doom guy would have a different chemical body composition as he’s an older race (not just human) and also eats demon making energy for breakfast. So the flood would probably have a hard time at the very least trying to bond to him. Also imagine Doom slayer fighting against being controlled. Joshua Gamez the rebreather is a very solid point. About Johnson and his nervous system - it only makes him a lower priority for the Flood and I was always weary that they only made that lore up to support his image alone, since there was a passage where Chief himself almost died to an infection form, saved by Cortana killing it by using the energy shield. The Doom Slayer would stand a chance, but one slip up and he'd be fucked.

Well as a fan of both Series, I do wish the Dead Space side of the lore he delved into would be proportionate to Halo's. Like the Graveminds, precursors are mentioned for a far longer duration than the marker or how cunning a necromorph "army" would be to compare. I mean, HiddenX knows more about Halo's lore than he does Dead Space so it is simply easier to put more time in the video on what he already knows, but this videos title made me think it would be like 50% talking about each with a conclusion. Like the marker even has more indirect powers like how it essentially seduced perfectly normal people to worship and try to betray their own kind and that's some pretty important stuff to acknowledge when saying who would win. I would still say the Flood though.

What would be a really dope concept for a Halo game could be you as Master Chief on a Halo ring or planet and you come into contact with the Flood while fighting the covenant. Then throughout the story you come across more and more Flood and notice that they're getting smarter and harder to fight. To realize later that you're witnessing all the different Flood phases first hand. It could be in one game and it could be more of a horror Halo game with a bunch of foreshadowing and tense situations.

I think it would largely depend on if the necromorph signal would convert flood troops. Even if there was a full gravemind, the flood use dead tissue all the time(grave.... mind...) so even if there is an overarching hivemind, why would that stop the individual flood forms from succumbing to the necromorph transmutation? I also feel necromorphs would be immune to flood infestation, denying the flood of a source of replication.

I do think that the Necromorphs and the Flood would only have a stale mate on this one fight. I know I am late to the party but as said before in the comments already, the brethren moons abilities are lethal to intelligent life forms that includes the grave or key minds. They may stave of the influence of the moons and even after destroying those monoliths, The thing that the brethren sends when their targeting a species for their invasion, their influence will stay. The brethren moons are species capable of influencing something within its vicinity. So if the grave or key mind never finds the brethren moon within its vicinity (that is a big if, highly unlikely but still possible) then the key mind or grave mind would ultimately succumb to the influence of the brethren moons and may become one of them. Given that the key mind or grave mind being intelligent they may stave of the influence at first and would be capable of putting resistance but influence is a matter of cunning and subtlety so it is a matter of who is being played in the mind games. Just a quick reminder that even an intelligent being is vulnerable to being foolish, and the fool can also be intelligent in it's own way.

This is a matchup that has such a number of questionmarks that it is difficult to say what would happen. - Since the Flood consist of a lot of dead biomass, and the Marker signal reanimates this into necromorphs, could the Marker signal simply turn the Flood against itself? - At equal levels, a feral outbreak of Flood would equate to a single local Marker with a low number of Necromorphs, likely mostly slashers. Since Necromorphs consist of dead meat reanimated through the Marker signal, would the Flood even be able to infect Necros? - At equal levels, a Gravemind would equate to a Hive Mind - a large control organism (which itself is still controlled through the Marker signal). This matchup would probably be favorable to the Flood, since the Hive Mind does not strategize well. If the Gravemind can bombard it from afar through its proxies, it may win. It depends on the Marker signal too - if it interferes with the Flood organisms it doesn't end well for those. Remember: Flood is about infecting living organisms, but the Necromorphs are about mental subversion and reanimation of the dead. - At equal levels, a Keymind would equate to a single Brother Moon (both Flood and Necromorph gather biomass to create that "final" form). Would the Flood really be able to stand against a moon-sized organic mass bent on harvesting the sum organic content of a planet? I'm not sure how much moonslaying the Flood could really do. - At equal levels, a Galactic migration would equate to the Brother Moons all gathering to feast. Same deal really... Doubt it would end well, unless the Flood managed to infest and take over a Death Star somewhere. I don't see this ending well for the Flood to be honest.

Aeternus Doleo Too answer your questions. No a grave mind is not equivalent to a brethren moon. Yes they are a galactic threat, at least the mind behind the markers is. Yes the flood can be reanimated by the marker signal, as long as it's biomass has been infected with the recombinant virus, which can happen by infector or infection from contaminated flesh. But the marker signal itself won't turn a flood form, it will however have an effect on their neurology and nervous system, turning the flood on each other at the smaller form levels. The flood are living. No, the flood couldn't infect the necros, even incapacitated ones. One because of the recombinant virus being present in every cell, but also the necros don't have what the flood need, a functioning nervous system and brain, they can be damaged but have to be somewhat functional. Almost every necros nervous system and brain are destroyed in a manner that the flood cannot use them. A grave mind would be similar to a nexus, in that they amplify signals. The nexus however does not transmit tactics or control other necros. The nexus is an amplifier for the signal and it's effects on the necros tissue, the recombinant to be precise. Plus a nexus has been shown to fight. A key mind IS NOT like a brethren moon. Even if a key mind was described like the planet sized flood, it's still a planet infested with the flood stuck in one place. A key mind is anything like a grave mind. And when a planet has been fully fucked by the flood there are key minds dotted all over it. A brethren mind is a moving consuming entity. They couldn't do much to stop the moon's. They would sweep through fleets and trash planet's surfaces. It wouldn't end well for the flood.

Canonically, in the Dead Space universe... empires have tried and failed (DS3 shows an alien empire having been partially successful at stopping the formation of one moon, but leaves the others intact). The Marker psychoactive signal subverts intelligent societies into creating dead matter - which then gets reanimated. Also, just thought of another reason why the Flood is at a severe disadvantage. Marker/Necromorph infections can affect lower nonsapient lifeforms as long as they have sufficient biomass. Flood, if I understood Halo's canon correctly, cannot (motivation: the Halo rings wipe out intelligent life. The Halo rings are said to target the Floods food sources). There however is one way the Flood would win. A Marker must be present for Necromorphs to retain their form. If the Flood finds and destroys it (takes some doing, but it can be done - DS1's end does it by having the protagonist drop what amounts to the mass of a small moon onto it from orbit) then any nearby Necromorphs disintegrate entirely and return to a sludge-like biomass. Add a Marker again however and that sludge reanimates...

So then you would have to say, what universe is this battle happening, the halo one, where there could be star roads, or the dead space one, where there are none? Also say this battle happened in the halo universe, does the place/planet where this happens have star roads near it that can be used? One planet, a planet just like ours. One half is flood infested, the other necro. All of their forms are present (let's leave a moon out of this because it hasn't formed yet, and no nonsense talk about a planet sized flood called a key mind). Who would win? I'm with the necros all the way and one of the main reasons is that downed flood forms, even their limbs can be infected with the recombinant virus or infector, and turned into necromorphs (remember necros aren't just made of singular corpses, hands and limbs can over time become a necro type). When a flood form dies, the super cell dies, just like our cells in most cases the only way a downed flood form can resurrect is if its nervous system and brain havent been to badly damaged by trauma and a spore can kick start the infection process again, but other than that they die. And necros love dead biomass. The recombinant will infect the super cell, rearrange it's DNA allowing the marker signal to then animate the biomass into a morphed flood necro. I'm not saying the flood would not cause heavy losses to the necromorphs but the necros having more dangerous forms, the ability to turn the other side and what they are just makes them to much for the flood to handle. And that is saying a lot about both the necros and the flood. Both would end the existence of every other lifeform put in front of them, that I am aware of, even the xenomorphs and tyranids, and they are absolutely no push overs themselves. The only other lifeform that is on my list is the thing, but that is lower down because it's a slow burner and is killed a lot easier than the others. But if that has spread enough for it to begin to forcibly take a planet, then the result would be as shocking as either a flood or necro outbreak.
