Often called the tugboat bowline or flying bowline, this fancy knot is actually not a bowline at all! Although the tying method is similar, the knot structure is different than a true bowline. Captain Nick explains how to impress your friends with this fun knot!

This is a super neat one because it’s very similar to the zeppelin bend, but like the bight version is that makes any sense.

Different types of birds…different types of bowlines. There are only 2 uses for a tugboat bowline, 1: impress your friends 2: only use in emergencies! As in when the tug boat skipper hollers “I need a loop, NOW!” and all you have is a bitter end laying around. Then voila, you’re a hero.

I disagree. I use it routinely in smaller stuff to put a quick, secure loop at the bitter end or in a bight. Other names are Perfection Loop, Angler's Loop, and Rescue Bowline.

Skip the whole first 4 mins for the actual knot and not all the jaw jacking

I guess you could impress the dock walkers by tying this but otherwise it's useless. I can tie a proper bowline four ways, all as fast or faster than this.

The example's with the white rope, both are wrong! You mentioned a twist with the left-hand, but during the example you forget the twist. The example's on board with the yellow rope, seams correct! Btw: The knot is formally known as "Perfection loop" or "Angler's loop". As you mentioned, this knot has nothing to do with the bowline.

Bolín = Wrong! Bowline = correct! The knot in this video is formally known as "Perfection loop" or "Angler's loop".

Funny how people can't understand simple linguistics. Bow + line somehow equals bow lin. Same as turbine when people say tur bin. There is an E on the end for Christs sake.
