i like the clove hitch with a shoelace loop for easy untie for the recycling bins... gets windy especially along the alley where they are kept.. i like the clove hitch as step one to the constrictor knot.. tuck the working tip under the first turn

Hey good job man. I’m an Eagle Scout. Good to see young men still being in Boy Scouts. This knot is my favorite knot honestly, I use it so frequently. Keep working towards Eagle!

Very good video and demonstration. Re keeping it secure - would it help to put a simple stopper knot on the working end?
@markkmiecik97975 жыл бұрын
If you want to make sure it won't slip just tie an additional loop like the one you used to complete the knot, or in the second method throw in a third loop. If you're still not sure just throw in as many extras as you want, although with four I guarantee it won't slip even on a glass rod.

I tried this on my desk leg and it kept slipping (maybe because the diameter changes throughout the leg). I've had success in the past where it didn't slip, but this is telling me it's not always secure on every type of anchor. Is there a more secure binding knot to use?

I always leave enough line after I tie the clove hitch and make a slip knot below it.

Thank you. I always wonder if I should do my knot videos out in the bush but I find that having a "studio-type" setting a bit easier to get a more clear view of how to tie knots. Especially getting an overhead angle. I figure I'm using the knots in other videos, so I can just link to and from them to show actual field use.

If you tie it on a round anchor it will not work lose as you put it.

Hey everyone! What do you think? Is the Clove Hitch still a knot you use? Would it be a knot you'd teach someone?
@amarmot36355 жыл бұрын
I would secure it with two half hitches.

You show how to tie a clove hitch but you do not say that it is made of two clockwise or two anti clockwise half hitches
@davidhall53812 жыл бұрын
Rusty Balls you had a fair question but why not try the 1st loop (half-hitch) with a clockwise twist and then tie the second loop with a clockwise twist also. Then study the result to see if it is correct ? If not then you'll know what to so on your second attempt. It's a no-brainer & I'm amazed that you have never tried to make a clove hitch ever before . don't be a silly sod !! What did your last slave die from ?

What would clove hitch be used for?
@yarpos5 жыл бұрын
Anywhere where you want a non slip knot at one end of a rope. I use it tying loads down on a small truck. Clove hitch one end of the rope, throw rope over load, truckers hitch on other side, tension down on load and tie off.
@jordannasse26355 жыл бұрын
I use it for rigging and lifting pipe

Could you possibly tie it any faster???
@yarpos5 жыл бұрын
could you possibly just set the payback speed if you want it slower?
@bryantreacher57934 жыл бұрын
This is not the way I tie this knot if it does not go around something you would not have a knot at all I tie an overhand knot and then bring the end up into the loop you make as you keep going around what ever it is you are trying a clove hitch to it forms a clove hitch with the loops crossed which seems to be better and dose not slip at all
@Dan21rod2 жыл бұрын
So, is it a hitch or a knot? you can't say, "let me show you how to tie a hitch knot"
@TrailguidePictures2 жыл бұрын
A "hitch" is a category of knot, like a bend or a loop. If you say, "make a loop in a rope" it doesn't describe making a loop knot. Same goes for a hitch or a bend.
