Another blunder is that the book references FNAF World as an "online RPG which has since been taken offline." Clearly, FNAF World was never an "online RPG" to be "taken offline." Scott clearly knows the difference between an online RPG and a single-player offline RPG, having made *both,* and would not have gotten this wrong. A lot of people are insisting that Scott wrote this since he's credited as the author online--which is literally the case for every FNAF book--and has his last name on the book's spine. These people insist that this is referring to FNAF World being taken off of Steam, and Scott just screwed up the language. But, like--this is not an easy thing to get wrong. The only reason you call something an *online* RPG is to distinguish it from an *offline* RPG. Scott loves RPGs and definitely knows the difference.

Having an "official" encyclopedia on fnaf is just impossible without it assuming things and taking a stance on the lore. The only way this stuff could work is if you just do the most surface level reading of fnaf, which is just unneeded, play the games at that point or hell watch markiplier play it if you dont like playing horror games. Releasing a book like that is probably a good financial choice, but having these books that look official but lack any consistency are just tricking old and new fans into believing even more crazy theories then they already are.

Also I just think an encyclopedia or whatever confirming lore is jist kinda lame. Like the books you have to think about what is relevant to the games lore. With meta stuff like voice actors, Scott has always been careful with casting and usually it only gave us minor info. But then a book like this can just say "Gregory is not a robot" and there was no input from us. We would just read that and go "huh that debate is over". It is just not in the spirit of fnaf.

this is gonna sound mean, but i say it as an artist myself - most of these illustrations are NOT of the quality you'd expect from a franchise this big. they can afford more professional artists. nothing wrong with the art itself, but it's really not up to the standard of a published book from an established IP. it's also very telling that they keep reusing old art even when it doesn't fit the context at all. i will give them points for mullet henry tho i love mullet henry

agreed, not only the illustrations, but the book design itself - it’s a bunch of slapped on pngs in a completely inconsistent style, lazily done layouts, with poor usage of fonts and no creative liberties taken whatsoever. it looks so cheap and with a franchise that has a style as distinguished as fnaf you’d expect a book with at least some personality. i’ve done book design in school on a pretty basic level and i’d be embarrassed to launch something like this. makes me think they rushed this so much.

Yeah I thought it was weird how all the Afton kids are confirmed to be British Mormons and how it just straight up confirms William and Henry are an estranged couple (explaining why Henry was complicit to William's murders). All in all though, 11/10 because I like the Jorunna parva drawings and the funny way they make Homo auberginus look like a little green rabbits.

What they did to Charlie is horrible. Also the person sharing the pages says that, sadly, Michael and the missing children and phone guy are all not in the book. And The Crying Child is apparently his canon name since it does specify on other entries when the names they give are not canon. Big yikes. It really dropped the ball here and missed a chance to give us art of characters we actually want to see instead of Dark Springtrap: Buy Our Funko Pop! Also, while this is less important for lore, it still mattered to me that it really does not do the book characters justice either and leaves out a number of animatronics (Fetch, Coils, Rosie) while including the dumb reskinned AR versions of characters. I would prefer Plushtrap Chaser to Piranha Plushtrap when it comes to a full entry in the Encyclopedia, thanks.

I think the problem here is that FNAF is a particular type of franchise. I think they hand stuff off to writers and illustrators like “Hey do this and we’ll pay you” and they’re like “OK” and I’m sure these guys are given a brief overview, but they’re not about to watch hours upon hours of fan theories and timelines when they can just Google stuff from who knows what source and write that. They’re doing it to get paid- which, to be honest, is fair and fine. It’s what they signed up for. They’re doing their job. And chances are they’re writing multiple things at once. Which is probably why they get basic facts wrong- they find a random source and assume it’s probably legit because they don’t realize just how much is left up for speculation. Lots of franchises can do this, because their lore is almost nonexistent, or you can go on a wiki and get straight answers for everything, with perhaps a few mysteries attached. The problem is you just can’t do that with FNAF. The lore is too confusing and convoluted and very difficult to understand for some random writer or illustrator to handle properly. They need to stop hiring random people to make these. They either need to have Scott write everything, get someone who’s already EXTREMELY passionate about the franchise, or not make these things at all. It’s gonna cost more time and money, but it’s the only way we can get consistent and coherent information (or at least, as consistent and coherent as FNAF can get). FNAF cannot be treated like other franchises in this regard but they keep trying to do that. Anyway those are my thoughts

The actual graphic novel series, the closest we get to Scott writing a book, literally gets a main character's hair color wrong. By the time of the final one, it's actually got the wrong characters in place because the illustrator only skimmed the book - and it's not just as simple as the eye color issues, it's actual whole characters missing with others subbed in for them.

From what I seen and read of the leaks, something about the writing feels off to me and not like Scott at all. The Ultimate Guide has problems but atleast it felt like Scott wrote it himself. 4:44 I have a counter to this point Back when SL released, there was a HUGE 87 vs. 83 debate over the Bite in 4, and I always took the room code to be a way to confirm that it was the Bite of 83. Also, to counter the Logbook, we know the Nightmares existed to some capacity thanks to the breaker room map which has dots for all the animatronics active in the area, meaning that atleast nightmare Freddy Foxy Bonnie and Chica are all real machines. It's possible Nightmare Fredbear and Nightmare are exceptions, and those guys ARE nightmares as there were only 4 dots on the map if I recall correctly. So this could be explained as crying child and Michael both experiencing encounters with the nightmare animatronics, one of them in person and the other in the form of nightmares. Or the Logbook thing could always just be more of a gag, as a lot of Michael's doodles in the book have a comedic aspect. Take the desired vacation or exotic butters vs. cash basket doodles, for example, not very serious doodles that are mostly just references. My memory on some of these things might be a bit fuzzy, so if there's something else you can't point to that was released after fnaf 4 to clear up the year, please let me know.

The logbook doesn’t treat the drawing as a gag. Faded text asks “do you still have dreams” on the same page the actual activities ask about dreams. Michael draws Nightmare Fredbear. This means they are either Michael’s dreams or caused him to have dreams about them. I think the code serves double duty. It shows how obsessive and controlling over Michael William became after what he did, and confirms the year he put his brother in Fredbear’s jaws, 1983.

The Nightmares aren’t real. In UCN, one of Nightmare Freddy’s voicelines is, “I am given flesh to be your tormentor.” Implying that he wasn’t real to begin with.

The Bite of '87 isn't a thing anymore; there was only ever one. One of many retcons over the years, and the date actually was '82 at one point before it settled on '83 - this was during the FNaF 4 teasers, hidden in the site's source code because.. I dunno, he liked to do that. Whatever the case. That doesn't stop the whole Mangle thing from being the community-preferred interpretation, of course, and it never will even if Scott says it outright at this point. The Nightmares _are_ real animatronics, likely including Fredbear - the Halloween update ones, though - Nightmare BB and Mangle, Nightmarionne, and Jack-O-Bonnie and -Chica, those ones aren't. Plushtrap's hall is present in the SL map as well, with five dots, one in the chair at the end and one in each of the four closets; and the pizzeria from the minigames is also present in that map, with two dots on its stage - recreations, presumably, of the original duo, Fredbear and Bonnie. Now, whether illusions are used or just animatronics that actually look like that, I couldn't say, but I lean towards the latter. It's also shown, with that map, that those rooms are not a part of a house - they are within Circus Baby's Entertainment And Rental, or at least somewhere similar in the facility since we're not exactly able to use that elevator to the fullest mechanical extent it could go to. Probably other floors to the place. Still have no clue if Nightmare Fredbear is a real animatronic among their ranks, and even less so with Nightmare himself.

It helps brings scale into the world, how everything fits into place; whether it's logical is trying to insert our real world into a fictional one. Remember, by '83 in FNAF they had fully functioning animatronics that could morph into suits worn by people, that's already way too advanced for our world at the time. The whole point is not if it's realistic to our world, but rather realistic for its setting.

This book has some of the strangest design choices. Obviously not including Michael is alarming, but including the Help Wanted Easter egg as one of shadow Bonnie’s appearances (something I didn’t even know until now) makes me think that the writer may know the games somewhat more than they let on. It’s like going to the “Fnaf iceberg” and skipping some facts from the higher sections and picking facts from the deep zone to slap into the book; no matter how hard I wrap my head around this situation I can’t figure it out. Everything about this book is just really, really odd.

I think the problem of all these books is that Scott REALLY hates to clarify the plot. I mean, he's always using the evasive in answering any questions about this messy thing that fnafers refer to as 'the StOrY'. He says something like 'Ugh, it's too complicated man, I can't say that right now' for every. single. question. When he was asked about that goddamned box, he came up with: 'You know, some things are better be forgotten, so... let's this thing go unaswered, let's-- let's pretend it never existed'; or about the Fnaf 3 ending, with some saying 'No good ending! Everyone suffers 'till Fnaf 6!!', but some (like you, Squawks) consider the Happiest Day as a post-Fnaf 6 event, and Scott just says: 'Well... I've been thinking all day and all night, thinking and re-thinking, counting and comparing, and I've decided... I won't give an answer. Because some people will be upset'. Does it ring a bell yet? Yes, I know that I'm applying his one and the only live interview and some answers on Reddit TO FANS and I wasn't at Steel Wool Studio when he he was consulting the crew, but... if we see that NONE of these books can answer the game's questions, if Freddy Files can't explain theories properly, if we have to use a LOGBOOK for KIDS to back up our words, if the ENCYCLOPEDIA, which was supposed to tell the truth about the so called 'characters' (they're freaking robots without any dialogue lines or charisma), can not do it and mixes the games... everything just tells me, that Scott treats his editors like with fans: they ask 'what is this person dingo in your story?' and he replies 'it's complicated' and that's it. I know Scott treats his fanbase well, but as a writer I have to admit that he doesn't know how to build a universe. Telling story in one game - he can. But not tie everything together into one coherent plot.

Mangle being listed as appearing in The Fourth Closet is just... I hate that. That character never even _got_ a name (I've taken to calling it Blacktime Mangle or Blacktime Foxy, since the yellow-eyed and two-handed take on Funtime Freddy in that book is canonically called Blacktime Freddy), and the graphic novels didn't do it justice at all, just literally swapping it out for some admittedly pretty good Mangle art - but that's not that character's design. That's a new character with concepts of the old ones all sort of mashed together, and it's just... well, you've seen the others. Those graphic novel adaptations have never been good about sticking to the source material for _anything,_ hence all the confusion they caused, but I hate that it's spread so far. It's like.. it's like FNaF 2 having that light flickering mechanic for Foxy, where any subsequent game has to make you do that or risk people just not getting it and thus not seeing animations that had time and effort put into them.

The Dream Theory-era was honestly the most fun in a twisted sort of way, because there were three destinct groups to it. Those that hated it because they considered it as negating everything, those who liked it because it made Fnaf 4 actually work as a final chapter and the niche fictional weirdos like me who went off the map completely and speculated about the logistics and possibilities of writing a dream world into a semi-paranormal setting. Ironically, we are currently in the worst era of the series thus far. The mainseries is a mess because of SB, the mobile side is a mess because AR's developers just quit instead of fixing it, fans can't agree on anything and the secondary material is at the absolute state of doing whatever.

I don't consider anything released post Scott's retirement as canon. This includes Security Breach since it was released after he announced his retirement in June. I was afraid Steel Wool would bungle what I (and what I feel a lot of other FNaF fans felt) was a perfect send-off to the Afton era with 6/UCN. Predictably (at least to me), they did, and so I wrote the series off after that. Sad to see them (whoever holds the reins to FNaF now, certainly not Scott, I don't think he'd ever let something like this slip by looking like this) continuing their track record of missteps.

About the Crying Child: a lot of people believe Fall Fest of '83 was a real event in-universe. If so, I would dare to speculate that Afton could be so evil as to test the effectiveness of his illusion disks on the poor kid every night and just watch from his bunker cams / have the cams set to record and then review the footage when he goes into work every morning. This would also kind of re-enforce the idea that Psychic Friend Fredbear exists to gaslight the Crying Child and monitor if he ever tells anyone about the Nightmares. Now, what if it was Mike experiencing the game play of FNAF 4? I'd argue this still could have all happened; what if we are playing as Mike and his punishment for what he did to CC is to then become the new test subject for the nightmare illusions / animatronics using illusion discs? Could FNAF 4 be about both children receiving the same mistreatment? It short of fits into how Scott's cut scenes and gameplay are usually not 1-to-1 connected; often the cutscenes show events from before or after the gameplay in the timeline of events. Often the cutscenes are not about the player character; not about the night guard but instead about every other character sort of circling / haunting the game? Oh, here's a freaky idea; Is Fredbear NOT one of the anamatronics? Is fredbear the haunting phenomena? Is FNAF4's gameplay about an actual haunting being experienced and caught on camera, thus fueling Afton's future wacky research that goes beyond merely experimenting on his own kids?
