Great content like this is drowned in the sea of KZbin channels. I never heard of this channel until Ana did a collaboration video with either Physics Girl or Braincraft (It was one of the two, I don't remember which.

I once had food poisoning and if I had to describe it...it is TERRIBLE!!! I was around seven or eight at the time and I got a salad for a dollar off at a store. I went home ate it and went to bed. In the middle of the night I woke up and started crying in pain. Next I started puking . So how it feels is like someone is grabbing your insides and twisting them up into a knot, and you can't stop puking seriously like non stop and when you have nothing to puke up then it just hurts as heck because your body won't stop trying to puke. In summary I EFFIN HATE IT

although listeria isn't usually found in food's because of pasteurisation laws (where I live in the UK anyway) it can be found in soil. My nan was the first person to die in our area from the bacteria after 20 years. Unfortunately, the test results for the bacteria came too late, and if she would've survived she would have severe brain damage from other complications. Thankfully she passed in a matter of days in an induced coma after the effects became known.

How come some people don't get food poisoning ever, like me, and others seem very susceptible? It is just due to partiality for raw(er) meat, oysters, and unsterile technique when eating or is it mostly based on how strong your digestive system & immune system are?
@peterschubert3429
@peterschubert3429 8 жыл бұрын
Really like the initiative to spread food safety knowledge :) Two points I'd like to add - you left out the immunocompromised (such as cancer and HIV-patients) out of the risk group. YOPI - young, old, pregnant and immunocompromised is the term normally used in scientific literature. :) Listeria uses host proteins to move around as correctly described but also loses its Flagella at body temperature in order to save energy.

Why do people eat rare beef steak? If the meat is to be thoroughly cooked? Is there a way to cook the meat thoroughly and still have the rare appearance?
@miloradvlaovic
@miloradvlaovic 8 жыл бұрын
You can deep fry it, fume-roast or even pour some vinegar on the (over)cooked meat. The result will be more juicy and more chewy meat reminding thus of the raw steak for example. Why do people eat it raw? It's most likely one of many of the cockamamie cooking trends

Is there any food-related disease that can kill a teenage in less than 18 hours from symptoms onset? I ask because over 30 years ago one of my neighbors got home from school feeling sick after eating a sandwich at school, she died the next morning. So I don't know if it was food poisoning or if she was accidentally or intentionally murdered with actual poison (accidentally if the food was stored near poison, or intentionally if someone poisoned her with a high enough dose to kill her so fast). I don't know the exact symptoms she had because her mom doesn't like talking about of course. But it was legally ruled "Food poisoning".

There are a few pathogens that can cause death in a quick amount of time.. some pathogens cause straight up organ failure, other pathogens can cause sepsis or septic shock... Can't think of the specifics right now... But I think the usual food borne pathogens like e. Coli, listeria, salmonella , fungus, etc generally don't cause near immediate death. . . Although some pathogens can cause near immediate symptoms

Since Listeria grows so slowly, it takes a while for companies to learn that they are breeding it, and distributing it to consumers!! Food product quality control doesn't catch Listeria for a little while.

Would not placing food in the microwave for 10-15 seconds aid in distorting all harmful bacteria?
@beinology
@beinology 8 жыл бұрын
It would help, but I'm unaware of a study that examines how long (or at what power) one must zap the food to reliably kill anything living on it. 10-15 seconds is no guarantee for safety.

Correct, Jajaid. Listeria use DNA to store genetic information, like most bacteria. Only a subset of viruses use RNA as their main genetic molecule.

So wait, virus' s are mainly from RNA.. is bacteria based on a more complex cell like DNA? or a different form of RNA? parasites are complex cells though... im confused -_-
@beinology
@beinology 8 жыл бұрын
Listeria is a bacterium: one simple cell big with a DNA for genetic information storage. Viruses are even smaller than that and some viruses are RNA-based while others are DNA-based.

@beatricebowlingzienkosky9828
@beatricebowlingzienkosky9828 8 жыл бұрын
It needs antibiotics. Also, most of this listeria problem is caused by unsanitary production of our food. Such as vegetables, especially. Just wash them thoroughly. It is bad if you get it , I did from the lettuce they discovered was contaminated back in '15 and it is no picnic.
