Man this story is so damn good. Adds to much to the original film. One of my all time favorites.

Awesome work. This is such an unsettling story, but the way it was adapted into the film, and the gruesome history of the Candyman himself was expounded on, was brilliant stuff. I don't know much about Liverpool in the 1980's, but my assumption when I first read this was that all the characters were white. The decision to make race a central factor of the film was way ahead of its time...as was making the Candyman black and Helen white. The extreme level of interracial seduction on display (Tony Todd basically channeling Dracula) was so taboo even for the 1990's, that I'm still surprised it got made.

This is great work. I really enjoyed this. I love your pace, energy and the life you breathed into even the most passing of the characters, especially at the dinner party!

It's a great reading, but it's set in Liverpool, we need Ringo Starr to read it😂

So weird to know that it was originally set in Liverpool. I knew about race riots there, but didn't know much beyond that.

Look up purple aki. A big black from toxteth Liverpool who appears out of nowhere and terrorised kids in the 80s, kind of like…

When I listen to a book like Dracula I prefer a British narrator, conversely, for Shirley Jackson's Haunting of Hill House you need an American. But you have to work with what you've got. As someone who's work was speaking for forty years I think you're off to a good start. However: Slow down. Read the text through out loud to yourself. You must know what every word means, and which phrases are going to trip you up. Context. This was written by an Englishman. It takes place in London. Your giving to folks in the Counsel Estate and the academics the accents of people who live thousands of away, across the Atlantic Ocean isn't the best choice. Use your own voice. A push chair on the pavement is a stroller on the sidewalk. I would love to hear you read this again when you've done your research and practice. Oh, and Dr Suess's Fox in Socks is the best book to practice reading aloud.

English people don't say pavement. Path. It's a pushchair on the path.

I didn't mind the American accents at all, since in my mind I'll probably always picture this story taking place in Chicago (thanks to the film).
