Absolutely beautiful. Loved them since growing up watching things like the professionals late 70s / early 80s.

Hardly a mini muscle car, that was more the 3.0L Capri or the 3.1L RS Capri until the later 2.8i came along. Escorts went around corners where a capri would understeer. RS2000 was just so chuckable, I owned a couple of Mk2 Mexico's with 2L pinto dropped in place of the under powered 1.6L full road rally build which only allowed a single carb it was putting 128bhp at the wheels, kent RL2 cam, gas flowed head, bottom end built with stock parts but lightened and balanced including flywheel, 4-2-1 manifold with 2" exhaust, revved to 7k but limiter set to 6.5k as they were not the strongest bottom end unless all steel billet, 5 speed sierra box with straight cut gears and quick shift linkage, decambered rear springs, LSD, bilsteins, quick rack, world cup x member, anti dive kit, vented front discs, sumpguard, full roll cage, a pair of spotlights and off you went on a Saturday night, Sunday morning down the lanes with a rally on somewhere in the country almost every weekend in the mid 80's when I competed. Great fun times

Beautiful car well restored. I remember back in the early to mid-90s, you could pick them up in the auto trader's for less than 2 grand.

"Created in 1973 by Ford simply dropping the Cortina 2 litre engine into the small, lightweight body of the Mk2 Escort". But the Mk2 Escort wasn't introduced until 1975!

Yeah, made me cringe when he said "This was the original [performance Ford]". What about the Mexico, RS1600, Twin Cam, Lotus Cortina mk1 & 2? Minor point also, the mk1 RS2000 (the actual 1973 car) was 100 hp.

He's done some serious modification, fair play to him. Can you imagine B.L. managing to produce a single, yet effective product like this, no wonder they went bust. That was a nicely done feature, very interesting. I'll be honest I don't really understand things like handling or steering feel and superior brakes. I can do servicing and simple repairs etc though. Unless there's something bady wrong with a car thrn they're all Perry much the same to me, sorry lol.

The RS2000 is a really nice car... Would have preferred to have the engine factory bog standard... Yes, I know it only had around 110 BHP factory standard ..But that was the standard back in the 1970s. Remember it is a historic car almost 50 Years old... If you want a fast powerful car ..Then just buy a fast and powerful car. Sometimes less is more.

BOOOO! the speed limit. Had two of these 'bad boys' in my youth. One was nicked (the white one) the other I sold when the family came along (the black one) for a price that makes me weep now when I see the prices their fetching when advertised for sale.

My first brand new car was a 1979 Escort RS2000 custom in venetian red with Recaro seats (Not fishnets "Tennis racket") it's reg was EPV195V i drove it for 60,000 miles and adored it, I paid £4550 on HP amd prettu much got my money back on sale, I used to buy used RS fords from the motoring news at 3000 to 3500 and get 4000-4500 as even the main dealers did not know the cars value. My last car is going to be a Dark Horse Mustang 5.0 litre so fu^k EVs.

@levelcrossing1504 ай бұрын
@@replay6896 Well it all depends on what you want in a car that does 0 to 60 in a second faster than the RS2000. It also cost more. The RS was a very simple package designed for reasonable power and good economy in mind, using many parts out of the standard Ford parts bin. It still proved to be quick compared to many cars of that time. For the ambitious, Ford also had some exciting modification packs available to improve road holding and to produce more power if that is what you wanted. With the Sunbeam you had an expensive Lotus engine to repair if you should manage to break it. The rally boys liked the RS2000 and I think the sales figures say the rest.
@replay68964 ай бұрын
@@levelcrossing150 and that’s all I said,lovely cars but we’re never really fast 0-60 or top,the second or so difference in 0-60 time to the sunbeam also equates to a 2.0 cortina v an rs2000.
