Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, and Keanu Reeves. These guys are all over 50 (Jackie over 60) and work their asses off and are commited to their stuntwork, and I will watch anything they're in. Also I'm totally calling he's doing a hilariocity on Jason X, or at least my favorite, Part VII.

BigGeekEmpire come on bro Jackie Chan wouldn't just be in a below average movie. If it had other actors in it I doubt it be as good as it can be. But I would have never thought it be cliche. Jackie Chan is smart he wouldn't just be in a film to be in it.
@TaoPhysiques7 жыл бұрын
BigGeekEmpire Wut? I don't remember Jackie Chan being in any action movie that was shitty or horrible. I hated how the trailer misled people to think that it was going to be a Jackie Chan movie. I wanted to watch this movie expecting an action movie with Jackie Chan doing his usual, martial arts kick ass scenes. Imo, they should have Pierce Brosnan as the poster child for the movie. He is pretty reputable and it would have made more sense considering what the movie is about. Political thrillers don't do well if no one knows what is going on.

I love it when actors are given a chance to get out of their comfort zone, play roles they usually don't. Most of Chan's work has been action comedy, so having him work on a dramatic role is a really interesting casting choice. From what I've seen, good comedic actors are often really good in dramatic roles, and I think that might have to do with how they pay attention to timing and nuance so much. Brosnan, I think, is also often underrated as an actor, probably because he was just too darn handsome as the young leading man. I actually prefer his later work more than stuff he did as a young man, because not only has he honed his skills, he gets to play more varied characters. Hearing this movie is more of a political thriller, I mean, that's my jam, so definitely will look where to find this.

Good character writing for a young actor at that age.

Jackie Chan's character was meant to be somebody who come out of the wood, kill his targets, go back into the wood. Man of few words. That's how he builds his enigma. Had the movie gave him more screen time we would have seen only another kungfu flick. Pierce Brosnan did a great job portraying somebody trapped between a rock and a hard place. Turned out he's a victim, too. Both Mr Quan and Mr Hennessy lost almost everything.

I think that Chan and Brosnan are both underrated actors. Chan cut his teeth in kung fu action films that he largely stunted, but portrayed astonishing emotional depth. Brosnan is a Bond man who is taken for granted for his emotional depth as well. This is an odd pairing that seems to highlight more than what has been how they're recognized. I think that any fan of the actors will recognize their true dramatic range.

I find the math odd. Vietnam War finished in 1975. If this movie is set in 2015 (for example), its been 40 years. If Jackie was 60, he was 20 when the war ended. How could he have time to be trained by US Special Force after serving in Vietnamese special force? Also, his daughter seems to be a high school kid. Assuming she’s 17, it means Jackie had her when he’s 43. Who’s her mother? Not Jackie’s wife who was massacred by Thai pirates. The book that the movie was based on was written in the early 90s. The time frame would make much more sense. However, if the movie was set in 1992, there’d be no cell phone and CCTV.

Stoked to see this movie now, I hadn't heard of it till you brought it to me here. Your reviews are always so measured and consistent (and excellent) that I'm starting to be able to call your reviews beforehand based on your tone and delivery (not a bad thing) -- Your B+ voice was out in force today :D:D

Awesome review can definitely see you’re not being biased whatsoever and seemed genuine. Haven’t seen it yet but I will tomorrow! I’m stoked to see Jackie in this type of movie. Hate seeing him get older as he’s one of my heroes and literally grew up watching him but age hits us all :( still the living Goat

jgwentworth34 yes it had one late showing in my town and it looked terrible. Majority of the film takes place during the day, there are no scary parts, effects are awful, its corny as hell lol

Is it just me or does jackie Chan seems irrelevant to the plot? The names of the terrorists were found out thanks to the police department by tracking the guy with the burn marks and if Jackie Chan didn't kill those terrorists himself then the team positioned around that room would've taken them out. And even if Jackie Chan didn't expose that Pierce brosnan was cheating with one of the accomplices of the terrorists it wouldnt matter because the prime minister already threaten Pierce brosan to confess everything.

+Freakyboy2nd 101 Yeah, but that's why it's a story!! It's the story of both these guys. As a matter of fact, their celebrity presence probably helps it, since it probably accentuates their face-off.

Suprised not many other people share the same opinion. Really thought Jackie Chan's character was pointless. He literally made no difference in the outcome of the whole movie and what was terrorizing the one person in the IRA that was against the bombings...just didn't make sense to me personally. Then all the betrayals in the NRA were like meh. Maybe if Chan had teamed up with the Irishman towards the end would the movie make more sense? Idk, but I was surely disappointed. Great acting but the story was just a Trainwreck imo.

From Taken 2: Liam Neeson: "It's a grenade. I want you to go to the Balcony with the grenade. IS THERE A SAFE PLACE YOU CAN THROW IT?" Daughter: "There's a parking garage." Liam Neeson: "Anyone on it?" Daughter: "NO!"

Hiya, I've recently found your channel and am going through all the movies I've seen that you've reviewed, I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I've seen nearly everything Jackie Chan has done and I did go in expecting 30 year old GOD MODE jackie, but getting old, beatable, resourceful because his body CAN'T just tear everyone to shreds, was so fun and so unique. The political stuff was more like a side meal for me and I enjoyed it, but watching old Jackie Chan where I Wasn't so sure he was going to survive everything and wasn't prepared for how planned he was, was awesome. I love this movie

What!?!? Downgrade? Where the fuck did you come up with that conclusion. Jackie Chan is a Master. Bruce Lee obviously great but in no way shape or form is Jackie Chan any less. The two should never be compared they are both masters in their own rights.
@bsdx1107 жыл бұрын
King of Pizza You mean an upgrade in terms of skills. Bruce used stunt doubles for even the simplest flips. Jackie did death-defying stunts that would've made Bruce piss his pants. XD

Jackie's still alive by the power of his own spirit. Bruce's spirit didn't prevent his own death.

King of Pizza haha you sounds stupid how the fuck can you compare someone dead to today's fighters that know mix fighting styles?!?! How the fuck is he the best fighter ever?!?! Where is the proof other than fucking movies. I'm not saying Jackie Chan is the best he is an actor that knows fighting just like fucking Brice Lee. Jackie Chan will mop the floor with you so at the end of the day does it fucking matter? I don't sound stupid you sound like an idiot.
@bsdx1107 жыл бұрын
King of Pizza A person's skills aren't limited to fighting in the first place, genius. That's why Bruce used stunt doubles like Yuen Wah for the simplest of acrobatics. The fact that you think he actually did those things with his nunchucks proves that you can't even recognize hoaxes from reality. Watch the video uploaded by ivlgenius7 titled "Bruce Lee in Game of Death - Special OUTTAKES - demo" to see how crap he really was with those weapons. If he actually wanted to prove himself, he would've taken the Gracie challenge. Fighting another person and doing death-defying stunts are two very different things. Bruce never had the skills to do the latter. Martial arts movies are the one thing that Bruce and Jackie have in common. A line of work that involves lots of different skills but not real fighting. Jackie holds the Guinness World Records for most credits from a single film and most stunts performed by an actor. Thus, an upgrade in terms of skills. You might as well claim that Freddie Mercury was more skilled than Michael Jackson because he was a better singer.
