Stupid Question here. I deposit $1000 and let’s say the average leverage is 100. If everything goes against me and all leverage is in use. Isn’t it possible to end up with a balance that is HUGE more negative than zero? E.g. like negative $ 100.000 and the broker wants me to pay?

Still gaining experience before trading live funds. I know you mention this in your videos but I think it might be helpful to point out to everyone the patience that is required in drawdown. I am getting better at being patience, but it can still mess with your head being in drawdown for days or weeks. My trades always end up in profit or break even, but it takes getting used to. Been loving the DCA stuff you've been sharing recently. About a week ago I started testing this approach on a small demo account for shits and giggles and this past week was able to grow the account roughly 8% trading about 8 major pairs on the 1hr with little to no analysis and no indicators (ive been staring at charts for over 2 yrs now so probably some intuition played into my decisions) Had a few recovery trades with some relatively gnarly drawdown along the way but still ended the week in profit. Funny thing is I used to avoid swing trading bc I thought it would be too slow and boring for me but ngl shit's fun haha. Also much less demanding & stressful than short TF intraday (which is what I'm used to) especially while trying to balance this with a full-time job. Def wanna keep playing with this and see how it plays out over a longer period of time.

Nice one Nick. That’s been my trading strategy for years. I use swing trading timeframes so you don’t want to add too soon. Also major and minor forex pairs only. Max two pairs at only one time. Max ten positions for each pair. I use overbought and oversold to go counter-trend. 0.01 lots per €1700 Partial hedging too which you don’t bother with which is fine.

Blew one. $600K on GBPCHF around the Liz Truss budget in October 2022. The account was seven years old at that point. That said I withdrew a lot. Bought property and stocks. That’s why I began to formally add some hedging.

@BlackwaveFX3 күн бұрын
@ it was the drop that occurred on the Sunday night after the mini-budget on September 23rd actually. I was long 12 positions of GBPCHF. Don’t recall the DD going into the weekend but on Sunday night the drop was significant. The difference between the high low that week was about 900 pips. SO, after that the maximum number of positions dropped from 12 to 10 and the position must be 20% hedged if I get to ten positions. Furthermore the remainder of the position gets hedged at a 25%DD. This would have saved the GBPCHF position which would have been back to breakeven within a week or two (if I recall).

Accepting the reality that we're idiots is certainly one of the most important parts of learning how to trade. Once you accept you're an idiot that cannot predict the market, you can then work on building a system (like this one) which is idiot proof, that could work despite all our fallacies as human beings. How can we make a system that prepares for the worst possible outcome? That's when you might be successful at trading.

Sure, you might come out ahead by 1 unit 100 times but then you'll go behind by at least 100 units once. Is a 99% win rate that impressive when you consider that? That's how all martingales work, small wins a bunch of times and then a big loss one time. The problem is that they might not happen in that order, it could be the one big loss the very first time you do it. What happens when it's two or more big losses in close succession? Now you're going to start sweating because it will take a long time to dig out of that, if ever. I find it very doubtful that the horrendous spreads and overnight fees in forex could be beaten by a martingale system, it's not mathematically sound. It's roughly equivalent to martingaling American roulette, there's a huge house edge against you and it's just a matter of time until it grinds you down, though you could get lucky for a while at first.

Would you consider withdrawing profits after making 10% and repeating the process instead of waiting to make 100% profits on the account?
@Jan-ChristianErfort3 күн бұрын
you'll most likely double the account 90% of the time. So why taking 10% makes no sense

somtimes if backtest this kind of strategy (1h), I end up closing 4-6 trades in profit in a periode of almost 4-6 months. Is this realistic???

Nick what leverage you would use in 2k account using 0.01? 100-500?
@thefxautopilot3 күн бұрын
It doesn't matter. Your risk is the same. A 0.01 trade is 0.01 whether your leverage is 1:10 or 1:1000
@raiyankhan82552 күн бұрын
Use as much leverage as possible like 500X is good to reduce margin per trade and reduce chance of margin call
@NickShawnFX2 күн бұрын
whatever you have available. i only get 1:50 or less, so i can be in a few opportunities at once, but not very many. if you can get 1:500 leverage, then you could literally trade every single currency pair at the same time on a 2k account with 0.01 lots for each initial entry, and not run out of margin. i know this because i started the 5k demo account 2 weeks ago and just enter trades on every single FX major and minor pair at the same time to test it - and so far the account has grown $1,300 in close profit with a current open drawdown of -$500 let's see where it goes.

@@NickShawnFX Intresting info thanks guys, i have one more question lets assume that i am in drawdown with 4 same size positions open and i want to get out of that trade at break even, i am using MT5, how do i know where i put take profit? In Trading view we see 1 average position instead of 10 open.

This guy is best. Makes those KZbinrs drawing 1000 lines on chart look like a fool 😅. And in reality, that's what trading is, no one knows what will happen atleast the retail with the data they have, so why not just say we are gambling when we are gambling rather than pretend "oh we are smart and can predict the markets" with lines drawn on chart.

Your coughing is hilarious. I also DCA but more on the slower range bound pairs for easier recovery. Doubled my account 5 times on average before blowing it, blowing normally only happens if you over leverage a bit.
@NickShawnFX2 күн бұрын
5 times before a blown account is great, i blow 1 out of every 3 to 4 accounts

it can works on a prop firm challenge?
@ce85392 күн бұрын
They don't let you hold overnight usually, so no. Unless you use the 1-15min time frame, and I'm honestly not sure if it works in those situations. Worth testing. If you get caught DCAing wrong direction on a trend day you won't be able to turn it around into profit by days end, also some prop firms have rules about DCA

If you are lucky yes. FTMO has a swing trade account at 1:30 leverage. But if you enter drawdown your account is toast. And swap fees will kill you.
