@muttproductions25362 жыл бұрын
I feel like that might be a reference to "Herbert West - Reanimator." For anyone who doesn't know, near the end of the story, the titular character, drafted into the medical corps during the First World War, has a British Major for a commander who actually shares West's beliefs that it is possible to bring someone back to life after death. Well said commander ends up getting decapitated during a plane crash, and West and his assistant decide to bring the Major back to life using the procedure they had been developing throughout the story. Unlike their previous attempts, however, it actually did seem to work: the major's severed head actually began to bark the last orders he gave to the pilot before he was decapitated while his body was writhing and moving as it did when the plane went down. However, before West and his assistant could reattach the major's head to his body and get him back up to speed, their makeshift lab was destroyed in a German artillery attack, leaving a distraught West to believe the Major was again dead, destroying his last chance to redeem his work and his name. About ten years later, Arkham, Massachusetts would find itself dealing with a mysterious group calling itself "the Tomb Legion," who were comprised of all of West's previous test subjects, lead by a man "with a wax head." This was obviously West's former C.O., and they had apparently sent something to West in a black box that West would burn in his fireplace before they broke through and captured him, possibly the major's actual head. TL;DR this enemy is likely based off of the one story H.P. Lovecraft hated as much as his fans did.

@Player-102 жыл бұрын
I think my biggest gripes with this game is that it doesn't bring anything particularly new to the table to keep me playing. Like, it isn't Dusk, where it takes all these different elements from other classics, pushes the limits and finds its own thing to make it just mind blowing. And for that reason, as the game keeps going and going I find myself more than a little bored that it seems to be overstaying its welcome. The gameplay is good, don't get me wrong. But there's just something more needed. There are literally so many enemies, most of which I can hardly get a good look at because they're constantly on the move or hurting me. I feel that really doesn't help me appreciate the art style, and the game has started to feel a little bloated because that's really the only thing that changes up what is otherwise actually pretty fun gameplay. The characters aren't interesting either. I think everyone can agree that the voice acting for the journalist isn't good, but the priest's isn't stellar either. There's nothing interesting about anything they say, no character moments or worthwhile lines. Its all throwaway cringe stuff that you'd expect some tough FPS character to say or whatever. Like, literally one of the lines is "First aid!" O.K. And? There's no character to either as far as I can tell, aside from generic FPS protag with a depressed priest flavor and a cringeworthy ditzy journalist from a dating sim. I think it odd that there's a narrator, who gives a stellar performance and has interesting things to say that are basically from the perspective of the main character, but the protagonist is far from silent. Instead you say totally worthless lines. On top of this, outside of the narrated bits of cutscene/story, I can't super follow what's supposed to be going on with the "story bits" you pick up in-game. They're usually scraps that don't really make me feel one way or another. Ordinarily in some games, readable lore can sometimes bog down an experience either because there's too much or it isn't clear/getting to the point, but for this I just don't understand what I'm supposed to be piecing together here with these scraps. I think I just picked up a locket, with a woman's name and portrait in it, and I think the Priest said something about it, like he thought he'd left it somewhere, but I have no clue what any of it meant. I'm not even sure what the Priest said had anything to do with the locket. If that was a character moment, it flew over my head. The point system just hardly registered for me. I got the first like, three upgrades to increase experience accumulation right off the bat, but it barely seemed to get me much of anything. Since I started, I see they've tweaked the point balancing, but I'm hardly able to upgrade at all. The pacing in terms of upgrading and getting new weapons or improved abilities is not helping me limp along through this. Now, these are my biggest criticisms. There's a lot I like about the game, I'd say the boss fights are probably the highlight. But I don't really see anyone talking specifically about what really needs improvement in this exceptionally passable, hardcore, fps experience.

I stopped caring about the length of games when my catalogue of games I own but haven't even played got around 20... They're so cheap and abundant these days that a shorter, concise experience is often nice. The notion that every game needs to provide 20h of playtime is a notion of the 00's open world craze and earlier rental/coin op ages than still persists.

Not a fan of the half-assed cardboard cutout aesthetics. It could work if the constantly player-facing sprites had views from all sides like Doom, or if the game went full meta like Delver by treating sprites as actual flat objects within the 3D world, but this lazy compromise shatters any sense of immersion. Similarly, the on-screen words that indicate headshots, explosions and collectable items are a very unfortunate anachronism. They could be viewed as either HUD elements or comic book stylization. The problem is that the font used fails at feeling comic-booky, and AR and actual HUDs are a modern thing that clashes with the era the game is set in. It could work if it used either a comic-book-style font or speech bubbles like the interactive objects. Also, the animation leaves a lot to be desired.

Maps in this game are flatter and simpler than in Doom1. Zero AI, enemies often can't find you around a corner and just stand idle while taking damage. Nice comic book graphics style is offset and spoiled by ridiculous amount of bloom and reflective surfaces. Purchasable weapon upgrades actually make them weaker most of the time. Gameplay gets boring very fast. "Story" is as barebones and incoherent as they come. There was a bit of potential in this game, but ultimately it's mediocre at most.

Awful upgrade system. You can upgrade your smg to a grenade launcher which makes it just a useless version of the rocket launcher that uses the same ammo. Same with turning your tommygun into a laser rifle that turns out to be a weaker version of the plasma gun wasting the same ammo. If you do both on expert difficulty you will probably softlock yourself in the second half of the game since you basically threw away two guns and there is not enough energy and explosive ammo leaving you with using a pistol 80% of the time.
@TheMikirog2 жыл бұрын
Ammo changes depending on what upgrades you take, so if you take the laser upgrade, tommy gun ammo will change to energy ammo. On top of that grenade launcher is clearly intended to be the rocket launcher early game, but late game the second upgrade changes its purpose from crowd control to single target elimination thanks to increased damage, fire rate and decreased explosion radius.
