A very astute and "right on the nail" assessment of this film. As a kid in the 1970s, I loved it. As a discerning adult, I find the same faults and merits that you mention here. The animation itself is very good! Good for you for taking the time to review this nearly-lost film so intelligently. A couple of pronunciation errors, though... Ray Bolger's last name has a soft "g" sound (rhymes with "soldier") and Rise Stevens' first name is pronounced "Ree-sah". But these are small quibbles. Good work!

At least Journey Back To Oz is a better animated Oz sequel than Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return

I have seen the Musical Hell review of this film, and when you were talking about Dorothy's original companions having second thoughts about their original desires (a brain, a heart and courage respectively). I was reminded of her review of Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return when the reviewer pointed out that The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion were already smart, kind and brave. They just needed someone, like Dorothy, to remind them of what they were capable of.
