I remember this eruption. I was a child back then, and I wept when I saw that poor little girl who got stuck in the mud and drowned slowly. It was the number one news in my country, Türkiye, and our nation felt very sad when they failed to save the girl.

Stunning film, thank you. That it was so devastating, and common knowledge of it seems lost.

Excellent documentary. An interesting perspective, a narrative from survivors as life smiles again under a beautiful light. The houses speak for themselves .. No come back.

I thank Michal for the way he interviewed my parents and my aunt when he was in this land together with his friend Kamil, where they gave us their friendship to collect this story from us, who lived it almost 40 years ago, where we lost that night many people who mattered to us and who still live in our memories; Armero never came back after that date, even the relationships with people changed!

Actually, there was a geological service by the time, and it was reported to Armero's Major, who claimed to central government for resources and red alarm, the government through the Mines and ¨Development¨ Ministry Iván Duque Escobar (Former president's father, Ivan Duque) was totally against science and ignored the warning. Then the tragedy occurred. This happened because specific people and specific government didn´t do their jobs. Thanks for informing about that BBC.

The goal of this film was to simply share the firsthand experiences of the survivors and immortalize this tragedy in a documentary format, not to point a finger of blame or expose the causes. That goal could very much merit it's own documentary, but that was not the purpose of this film. That said, if you are interested in producing or contributing to a film with those objectives, I'm sure the BBC would welcome your suggestion if you reach out to them through official means.

Not forgotten at all. And really, if the BBC thought it was forgotten, they could have done us the favor of showing what it looked like before the disaster. It's not like photos and videos aren't available.

But we see some. They put their focus on the ruins conquered by nature. Sometimes one has to make choices to express something. Only three flash backs of the life before As a background.

And here we are... Almost 38 years later, the very same volcano is on the verge of a new eruption. Who knows what's going to happen. Fortunately. Authorities learned from experience and evacuations began.

But a few days ago a woman refused to leave her animals and business. Some people are just stupid. Here in Northern California there us a dormant one. If this thing starts spewing, im outta here. To Wyoming. I'm not hanging around!!

@@videorocketzmillar007milla5 is not about being stupid. Farmers in Colombia aren't nearly as big and rich as farmers in the US are. Unfortunately those things are the base of their income, and here... Well, farmers have a high rate of poverty. So leaving to them could translate into a huge loss, and the government will not cover their expenses and even left them abandoned after a couple of days, that's why many of them are refusing to evacuate, or will do as long as their animals (Cows, Hen, dogs, horses, etc) are taken with them to a safe zone.

I haven't watched the whole video yet but I'm kind of a volcano geek. The town was actually built on a site where this happened hundreds of years ago. And they still there.😢

A impotência do homem ...perante a força de um vulcão que destrói, as pessoas deixaram tudo para trás ...ficaram as ruínas e uma natureza bela que rejuvenesceu das cinzas!! O terreno não terá ficado mais fértil?!!
@Javier_Arciniegas
@Javier_Arciniegas Ай бұрын
Sim, a terra pode ter se tornado um pouco mais fértil, devido ao descarte do material vulcânico que se espalhou pela área do município que desapareceu, mas ao custo da morte de dezenas de milhares de seres humanos que pereceram naquela noite!

There is no doubt that tragedy could have been avoided. The volcanologists, the mayor of Armero tried several times to attract atention from then Colombia governent, the colombian congress and anothers, Even the governor of the department of tolima at that time. And what did they do? Nothing. No evacuation plan that the mayor and the volcanologists were clamoring for was carried out. Local radio stations asked the population of Armero to stay in their homes until there was a power outage at that night... In short, the negligence and ignorance of the government at the time caused this horrible tragedy. This sad episode in my country plus the the Palace of Justice siege crushed the government of Belisario Betancourt and his legacy, whether you like it or not.
