The Forgotten History of MGA's Shrek the Third Toys

I had the Fiona styling head! It was either her, or picking one of the dolls and I thought I would see the princess dolls again, but never did lol. The styling head’s gimmick was that she came with a spray water bottle you were meant to put in the fridge and when you spray it on her face, she turns green. She even came with Shrek ears and a comb with half princess-purple design like that of her base stand, and the other half was green with a “slimy looking” mold design. Her neck stayed the same peach skin toned colour so turning her into an Ogre wasn’t a complete success lol 🥲 The princess doll line is an interesting one! Their looks and colour palette actually take after the princess concept art for the movie, before they changed it last minute and unfortunately MGA didn’t have the time or budget to do the same. Which is why Snow White has long hair, Cinderella is in a pink dress, etc.

Very interesting feature with that Fiona head! I’d love to see a boxed sample but they’re very rare to come by. Definitely makes sense that she was meant to be heavily played with…many of the loose samples I see are stained and damaged. I always wondered why. Mystery solved, thank you! 🙏

Definitely! While there’s already some really nice videos on the USA McDonald’s figures there’s a lot of underrated releases from other countries. (Example: the quite excellent Shrek 4 McDonald’s figures from New Zealand)

Glad i found your channel. great video i wish we got Lillian and Doris dolls. also kidna wish the dolls were more movie accurate. i may try to make custom, dolls of them only difference between the Storytime collection is the kung fu action and the tattoos.(and more characters that werent in shrek) they may have wanted to save money by re-using their existing resources and that could be the reason they dont look more accurate.

I would do incredible things for a Doris doll. Yes please! Would love to see a custom. Honestly copying the Disney-style and making all the core princess get generic "pretty" makeovers goes against everything the Shrek franchise stands for. Either that or MGA was just trying to make a quick buck off their failed Storytime dolls.

I'm from Argentina and last week I saw the Prince Charming figure at one of our big toy retailers here. I was shocked. I was like "isn't this figure from 2007 or something?? it can't be, it must be some new toyline" and I was wrong lol. It was indeed that figure. Super weird that it's still on pegs almost 20 years later

That is insane! I’ve had weird moments like that too. I once saw a 1996 Star Wars figure around 2010-ish. Heck my local Walmart STILL has an entire aisle of Lightyear toys. I have a feeling those will be there for many more years to come…

Yet another grear video. Nothing much to say on this one on the figure side of things, so I will add an anecdote on the Arthur comment. When I was just chilling on the web a while back I saw that Shrek had a crossover with lords mobile, which I don't play or care for, but I remember it due to the fact that they gave both Merlin and Arthur new renders....their first apperance SINCE Shrek the third, it blew my mind cause dreamworks pretends this movie doesn't exist 99% of the time, so the fact that lord mobile managed to convinced them to make new renders of both of them after 17 years of pretending they don't exist is wild to me!

Great video!! I had the Cinderella as a kid, I’m a doll collector now and I still have her outfit but I could not figure out where it was from! So your video solved a big mystery for me!! I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for the princess dolls now that I know

Glad to help out! Even though they’re rare they are pretty easy to spot in the wild. I just dig through boxes of naked old dolls and look for that green “S” tattoo on the arm. Fiona is definitely the most common as I’ve seen at least a few of her. (Although almost she’s always tore up from the floor up!)

I've always wanted to get my hands on Shrek action figures, but I just never got to find any of them. These videos you put out are a great way to keep track of everything. I'm amazed that nobody attempted to make proper action figures for the Puss in Boots dualogy (what I give to have an articulated Death/Lobo action figure). I'd even be down for a Team Friendship 3-pack. There's so many potential ideas that can be done with the Shrek franchise, as far as action figures go.

Shrek could have an amazing 6” figure line. So many characters across all six films. Especially those Puss in Boots ones since they never got proper action figures. If you want a nice display of Team Friendship the AMC Theatres “cup toppers” of Puss and Softpaws scale nicely with the 6” figures. They’re not articulated but they look better than the kids meal figures. (But sadly there’s no figures at all of Purrito or Death.)

Really enjoy these videos, and I haven't even seen Shrek 3, nor the first two probably since they released lol, but I absolutely love figures and content about them. I'm really intrigued about that weird Shrek 2 Fiona double pack and what the story is, also why does the Prince Charming figure at 3:50 say "Sir Shrek The Brave?" instead of "Charming The Vain"? Somebody at MGA thought they were being clever with the whole royal-naming-scheme. It’s funny how all the Shrek the Third merch went so hard with the royal lineage gimmick when Shrek is really only king for like ten whole minutes of the film. (Heck even the title references the fact that Shrek is to be king…only to refuse the offer right at the beginning of the movie.) Also I literally lose sleep over that Fiona double pack lmao.
