Thank you again for watching - I was sick during the latter end of recording this video so I apologise for any mispronunciations or if I sound different. I will edit this comment with any clarifications that may be needed. - Baroque can be pronounced in two ways -- buh-rok (British) and br-owk (American). Despite being a British speaker I used the latter because it is the massively more popular pronunciation and isn't correct. - During the music section I refer to Star Trek The Next Generation as a ‘movie’ - it's a TV series. - Some sprites during the NPC section are glitchy post-export. - The intro music is the AKIRA IS GONE mashup on KZbin - The outro music is Ripsteel Road - Miracle

As a fellow KZbinr I have been overjoyed to come across smaller channels making enormously ambitious and well crafted videos this past week on my holiday break. Holy cow this is astounding. I have never heard of this game and yet I watched the whole thing, captivated and attentive. You have a bright future on this platform.

I played Baroque a long time ago by chance, because my mom was shopping at a Best Buy and saw the ps2 remake with the anime aesthetic and thought it'd be a good gift for my birthday when I first played it, I didn't get anything that was going on but the world was so dark and rusted, it was nothing I have ever seen before and I just grew so obsessed with it. growing up now, I can understand the themes and I'm so glad more videos are coming up about it now. The Nerve Tower site did so much to help me understand this work, and videos like these made with such love and care for the work makes me so happy to see.

This was an insanely good video. I watch a ton of long-form deep dives on video games and movies like this. I've even watched one about baroque before. This video went above and beyond, though. I learned so much new information, the pacing was wonderful, you have a calm but not boring voice, and it's clear that a lot of research and dedication went into making this. Very enjoyable and easy to listen to/watch. 12/10

Baroque is an absolutely amazing game, and at the time of its release there really wasn't anything quite like it, and even now the only game that really captures its same vibe of eldritch hopelessness is Fear and Hunger. It makes me so happy to see more and more people take interest in it, especially people as passionate and eloquent as you!

So excited to watch this. I've dabbled in this game on MiSTer and really loved the particular 90s Planescape: Torment-style art direction and rogue inspired gameplay. The story and setting baffled and intrigued me. I remember being disappointed when I looked up the sequel and saw that it seemingly ditched the art style of the first game for a more bland anime aesthetic. Anyway, thanks for the video!

wow i love that The Algorithm decided i should watch this! i actually just got myself one of those little handheld retroarch things that can do psx games (rg35xxh), was randomly grabbing a bunch of English fan translations of stuff in genres i like, and one of them was the psx version of Baroque. i ended up playing it all night one night a few weeks ago. unfortunately, i then got hooked on colin mcrae rally 2.0 and have been since, but now I'm gonna have to look for the Saturn version. i picked up on some of the themes you talk about, but now with more context, i think I'm gonna enjoy it a LOT more. great stuff!
