I've tried making UI designs to make money but I realized how much developers actually cost to hire and commission.

Start simple and make a game that can earn you funds. Threasto (another YTer and dev) honestly is a great example of this, with fairly simple (yet very cool) game ideas, and he’s doing very well. Networking also helps, if you can find friends to develop with you can be unstoppable.
