No it is the way they used to pick singers and bands. A group or a singer used to have to work hard and have an audience. Now if you can impress a person on a reality show you get the big stage in front of America. Usually that person has not worked and toiled in the trenches for months or years honing their craft. They just got on the biggest stage and impressed people. Remember seeing bands at bars or some local festival? Some group of nobodies playing for little money. That is how mostly all of your great bands/singers used to be discovered. The movie “Jersey Boys” was how you used to get going, you played and some record company gave you a shot. Now all you need is a face that people can see online.

The story behind this song is classic. According to Bob Gaudio (the co-writer), he'd stopped at a light in Manhattan on his way to the studio, when a young girl came up to his car and began washing his windshield. As the light turned green, he fumbled for change, but found nothing smaller than a ten-dollar bill. He said he couldn't just give her nothing! So, he gave her the ten. As he drove off, he looked in his rear view and saw the girl still standing in the middle of the street, staring at the bill. The image of that girl, in her tattered clothes, was so powerful that when he got to the studio, he immediately began composing this song. The rest, as they say, is rock 'n roll history.

The first time I heard the story, it was a $50 bill. No matter. The sentiment was still there. It might as well have been $100 considering what year it was. It was still a lot of money. The Four Seasons story goes back a long way with me. One of my earliest music memories goes back to the early 60s. I was all alone at home for some reason. Or, at least there was no one in the room to hear me. A Four Seasons special came on TV. It started at the very beginning of the broadcast, so I didn't miss even a minute of the introduction. And, with no one there to tell me to change the channel, I sat up close to the screen, and got to watch it to the very end, too. That was rare. One of my first few vinyl LPs was a Four Seasons record. I played it over and over again. It was a comfort to my soul in those trying times. I dont know what my life would have been without that music. But, I do know it wouldn't have been as good. Thanks

I was a pretty girl and it angered other girls that the popular guys were attracted to me. I was really put down and shamed for my ratty clothes and run down home, but there was a sweet, kind boy who saw past that, even with his friends and family trying to break us apart…I’ve been married to him since 1975 and he’s given me such a wonderful life…

I would like to do something similar like, for example, catching Lee Harvey Oswald and FBI director J. Edgar Hoover red-handed on the 6TH floor of the school book depository building in Dallas, and place them both under citizens arrest! Afterall, the guy on the grassy knoll was only targeting then Texas Governor John Connally. Also, I might like to have had helped persuading FDR to allow Patton to land at Amsterdam, Netherlands 🇳🇱 the week before the Normandy landings, and prevent the Gestapo from capturing Anne Frank and company; because some folks say that if she had lived, she might have gone on to become the first woman director of the FBI, and then Hoover would have become an inmate at Alcatraz alongside the likes Nixon and Castro, among others.

This song describes how my family thinks about my girlfriend. She is very much a rag doll and isn't a traditional girlfriend. But when we are together it's like no else exists. Love her so.

This was also my situation. My Dad was dead set against her, but he changed his mind after several years when he saw how devoted to me she was. That was 56 years ago and still together living out what ever years we have left,

If you grew up in the 60's listening & loving harmony groups, The Four Seasons had to be with your top favorites - if not the favorite. When I came to background harmonies (that I love), they were masters. From their very 1st 🎶hand me down🎶they stopped me in my tracks.......0:35 - 0:45. 60 years later, I'm still listening & loving them - even more ♥

It wasn't a big deal then, especially if you came from a large family. I grew up in ethnic Catholic neighborhoods in the Bronx and it seemed like tradition then.

"Rag Doll" inspired Billy Joel to write the flip side of the story "Uptown Girl". The former is about a poor girl in love with a rich boy, while the latter is about a rich girl who's had enough of "high class toys" and "presents from Uptown boys" and goes looking for a Downtown man ("That's what I am!" declares Billy). When I listen to both songs, I can hear similarities in the harmonies. The piano man is paying tribute to a main influence from his youth.

I heard this on a 60s Gold radio station the other day - and if a song can ever be called perfect - it's this one.. the lyrics, the arrangement, the harmony, everything.. it's timeless. One of the great songs of the 60s - and of all time.

Every time I listen to this song, not only am I amazed with their singing voices. I also like the muffling sounds of the snare drums as if they’re creating punching sound effects.

I love this song and the Four Seasons. I could listen to this song over and over. I grew up in the 60"s when music was the greatest and had meaning. Thanks KZbin for allowing me to listen to my favorites and going back to good memories even if just for a little while.
