Fun facts of the Second French Intervention in Mexico: France also used soldiers from their colonies, including Algerian and Senegalese soldiers. Benito Juarez is painted as a hero in Mexican history, but the truth is during his short reign Maximiliano did more for the indigenous people than Benito did in his whole career and arguably loved Mexico more than Benito did. He even only accepted the request to be emperor because he was tricked into believing that’s what the Mexican people wanted. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the USA than in Mexico.

Nice work with the historically accurate map of 19th century Europe, with the small German states, Italian kingdoms, Serbia etc. Many people would just copy and paste a current map of Europe and say job done. Love the channel!

@@Makarosc probably, he was a good guy but probably whould have faced opposition from the conservatives, he had liberal ideas for reform and he losed their support irl so who knows how whould it come out, he whould probably depend on foreign help and that whould have sunk Mexico in poverty because I doubt that support whould have been for free or he whould have to give resources to foreigners wich whould also have a negative impact in our sovereignty and wealth as a nation. But who know anyway we celebrate 5 de Mayo not bc he died, but because we beated the French army in battle and that was a great accomplishment for a troubled nation like Mexico, so yeah I'm gonna keep celebrating it.

@@ruiz1358 true tbh I think the best outcome would've been Juarez accepting his offer to be Prime Minister he could probably hold back the Europeans (and Juarez) while Juerez rebuilt

@@Makarosc probably would have been the better, we whould have avpided a costly war and might get European help not dependency and perhaps economy whould have been rebuilt, but Juarez view them as invaders and he didn't wanted to share power with what he considered a foreign invader, but who know how things could've been.
