I should've suspected something when it sat on the Marketplace for two weeks...No one wanted to pick up this FREE Mid Century Modern Three Drawer Dresser, and now I understand why! Covered in sticky, tacky tape, pen marks, and chips, and with one drawer missing its signature pull and another drawer refusing to sit straight, this little dresser was on its last legs and headed to the dump.
Come with me as I try to rescue this difficult dresser (who I named Dylan), trying to determine if it is really worth the all the effort.

It’s always a good Saturday when there is a new Fables to watch! Your creativity is incredible!! And, it was just the inspiration I needed today. I took a break from refinishing 70 year old kitchen cabinet doors that my grandpa had made because I made a huge mistake (note to self: always remove any wood pieces used on the back of doors to reinforce the wood BEFORE spending hours stripping the many layers of varnish and paint off because they just may be hiding layers of mold behind them 😳). I have a renewed sense of determination to find a way to creatively replace six cabinet doors! Thank you :) PS - He’s definitely a keeper - stunning piece!

Another amazing transformation Andy. This style (50's, early 60's possibly) is my very favorite. Dylan was beautiful in spite of the damages, and you made him shine again. Having bought many pieces both antiques and restored in my life, I priced Dylan at 500.00 so your price was fair. In the future, something I have really found success with, when I have a particularly stinky piece of furniture is just plain shellac. It's clear, so you still get the nice wood look in the drawers and inside of the furniture piece, no paint required, but it still encapsulates the stink. Great job! The dresser turned out really nice!!

Yes - great tip! Honestly, I opted for the white (even though I'm pretty sure I had some clear somewhere) just because upon closer inspection, Dylans drawers were looking at tad rough on the inside as well. 😅 Thanks so much, so glad you like the outcome!

Andy, I so love Dylan. He reminds me of a Mid Century Modern Heywood Wakefield piece, with the design of legs and pulls. The color is beautiful. Biff is looking better than the last time. Hi there Andy. I was so happy to see a new vlog! I hate that musty smell in old furniture too. I recently purchased Odie's Oil Wood Butter. I am going to try it out later this week on a piece to see if it helps with that musty smell. I've also heard that Dixie Bell's Big Momma's Butter works too.

I recently had the same problem with a MCM dresser that I was restoring for my new Grandson. I found that I had an easier time remounting the wooden drawer glide by removing the back of the dresser. This gave me full access to the front and back and I was able to reinstall the glide so much easier. Enjoy your channel! Debbi ( David’s wife)😉

You are amazing and so patient! I learn so much from you while being entertained and inspired. Biggest lesson: deal with it; don’t pretend that a new coat of paint will hide any issues. I’m very new to all of this, but I’m learning with each project…and discovering that each and every one talked at least three times longer than I anticipate. Perhaps my speed and estimates will improve with experience. I do t have any of the major tools that you have (nail gun, power saw of any kind), so I have to choose my trash pieces wisely. Have 12 in storage and three at the house. My poor suffering husband ☺️

And thank you for the cat (and dog) breaks. I’m a dog person but have 3 grandcats, and there’s nothing more fun than watching cats being cats.
