I know it's a sin to many, but this tallboy has too much of a good thing! Come with me as I cut down this blocky, monolithic MCM Dresser in hopes of giving him a new chapter! We'll remove a broken drawer and bar, add new base lumber, and mount new feet, all while finding a fresh design for his modern "new suit"! This is going to be one "sharp dressed man"!

New here, came from Shorts. I ran 14 videos and forgot to turn them before falling asleep at one am...slightly obsessed with resto, repair and preservation of stuff. I did this work and much much more in my soon to be 62 years and I have a few pointers but I like how these videos are done. I don't mind voice overs at all but sometimes...as long as a hammer isn't a part of the video...I love the sounds that when I made them, I made a side job living at making. As an artist, I sold my first piece at 8 years old and didn't stop making a living with my hands, on my own terms, for the rest of my life. These hands are now resigned to doing polymer clay sculptures, miniatures and jewelry. I still have tons of antique trade beads too but...I don't sell anything these days. I spent my life selling my creations and have only a few items I kept for myself. Now I keep what I like, give gifts and give the stuff that I know I won't use to the senior center, my grandkids and grandkids of friends. I even gave away my entire *almost* sewing setup including a never used machine. I gave that to a family member who has some mental challenges but she loves cosplay so in addition to all my supplies I went into my leather goods, beads, clay, paint and all the embellishments to give her all the options for her near future. She was gobsmacked to say the least. I say all of this to preface any suggestions I make. I also did auctions, ran two stores, had an online store and then it went with my health. So, my very first suggestion to anyone who read this far....FOLLOW SAFETY RULES! You don't want to have COPD because you didn't take the time to protect your lungs. Listen to your body too. If you back doesn't like what you are doing, fix the height or how you lift. It really sucks to think you are a super hero only to turn into a grump in pain. For me it is my hands. Use compression wear after work if your hands feel swollen. Why? MAJOR SUGGESTION HERE.........the tendons and ligaments in your body are the smallest in your hands. When you swell it stretches them and eventually they wear out. I remembered my grandma's hands, how worn they looked, the knuckles large and red. I watched my moms hands turn into her mother's hands and now...well I was just diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in one finger. I started late in life taking care of my hands and believe me...I regret it. Fine work is out of the question. So do R.I.C.E, rest ice, compress and elevate what ever body part is mad at you. Your welcome! I got my auctioneers license, top woman in my class. Then I found out I get stage fright. Still, flipping everything from garage sales, auctions and such to houses...I have done it. Any questions? In the meantime... check out Tom Johnson on YT. This guy is a master of this craft. I can say that about a few online but this guy is a generational expert. Not to mention, he lives in Maine where most homes are filled with antiques. Have a safe New Year everyone1

This reminds me of This End Up furniture that was popular in the 1980s. That furniture was made from yellow pine. I love the color and the feet. I think you made a good decision to take off that bottom drawer and add the feet. It looks less clunky and the open space at the bottom gives it relief from the boxy look. I think it turned out great!

I made my night table out of a tall boy and am extatic about it. I cut it down so I could look over the top and see where l put things like my glasses, alarm clock pill case and remote control. I laid in bed with my pillows under my head and found the perfect height and cut away with a jig saw which is what I have. Its the best night table I've had in my 65 year old life. One drawer for face and nails, the next for hair, the next for undies and the last for miscellaneous.....

Andy, what an incredible amount of work you put in on this handsome but beat up fella. He's standing proud now. The fact you still had fillable indentations even with all the sanding reminds me of a recent video I watched over on Dasher Furniture Design and Restoration. He used a small soldering iron and water to create steam that helped the dry wood to swell and fill in an indentation. Is it 100% perfect - no but a lot of time you can get by without filler. Check out the small pink table he restored. Towards the end he damaged a table leg when it dropped on concrete while re-assembling table. Nasty concrete took a big bite out of leg which was 90% restored by steaming. Just another tool to have in your toolbox. Good luck; I love your creativity.

The geometric shapes on the drawers are awesome it would have looked just as good if you carried the shapes to the sides of the dresser. And yes another triumph indeed. Great job

Hi Andy wow this piece turned out really really good it has a flare of style I wasn't expecting, at first as it, lord like a difficult piece to make looks amazing but you definitely did just that, I love how you diched that draw and the stain and hemp oil renued the wood beautifully gave it a gorgeous deep hue ,the feet look like they were made for it, and I really like the blue you used for top,, lines and stencils, even the paper you used to line the draws, complimented the exterior, as you always do you took something old , drab and ready for the tip to front and centre straight up stylish that I have no doubt will sell fairly quickly ,thanks for sharing all the best Mary in Australia 🎄😊

Andy, you are so creative! The characters you've created in your skits have come alive to me. I can't begin to imagine how you dreamed up Biff. 😄 And then there's the creative way that you bring abused, forlorn furniture back to life. Truth be told, when you're done with it, the furniture looks better than it did when it was new. Keep up the good work and keep those fables coming!

I’m such a fan of keeping some wood exposed. I love that you removed the bottom drawer. I’ve had some tall dresses where you needed to be an NBA player to be able to see inside the top one.

This is crazy...but I literally have a miniature version of this exact dresser that I am about to refinish. It was so great to see you work with the piece as now I know what to expect! I haven't determined design yet...mine doesn't seem as beat up so first step is to just sand and see what I've got!
