It is extremely difficult to become process oriented instead of results oriented, but the process is what will give us the results we want.

This is super good advice guys , it makes you confident and almost makes you enjoy practicing as it makes you more focused and deeply concentrated in practicing.

Wow ! Thanks for this ! Exactly the strategy I’ve been taking recently. I never use the metronome until I know I can play every note with meaning and expression without mistakes. It actually treats it like a game or a sport, but somehow is more enjoyable as you actually take baby steps forward and at least you don’t go backwards. Every note is precious.

I am very guilty of enjoying and playing the music and very bad at 'practice'. Then I get annoyed when I make mistakes. This is eye opening and inspiring - something I need to try out! Love the videos on practising.

I definitely don't ever want anybody to feel guilty of just enjoying and playing music for enjoyment's sake. But for the sake of progress, it's all about the balance.

@@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy Totally! I'd also enjoy it a lot more when I can iron out some mistakes 🤣

Hi Nathan, great advice as always, thank you! Much of what you’re conveying is consonant with the key principles in Christopher Berg’s book “Practicing Music by Design”. Highly recommended if you haven’t read it. The chapters on slow practice and chunking come immediately to mind. I always find your videos very helpful, practical and inspiring. Keep up the great work!

Hey Nathan, really getting into your content. I'd love to see a video on how you select which finger/thumb should be used to pluck a note. I know the rule of 'thumb' is thumb takes the 3 bass strings and I M A takes top 3 strings, but when is this not applicable? I notice in a lot of your arrangements you don't follow this 'rule' and would love to know more. Keep it up, absolutely subscribed for the future!

i kinda arranged a song but i changed 2 different keys and now i realised it what to i do?
@paulysguitarjournal4 жыл бұрын
So how do you do all that? That was the overview, what are the details?
@BeyondTheGuitarAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Some of the specific things you can apply that were outlined in the video: -Slow down -Simplify and isolate tricky sections -Be strategic and plan out every movement -Maintain a high level of focus every repetition (don't get lazy and do mindless repetitions) -Memorize your pieces deeply by practicing visualizing your finger placements without a guitar in your hand.

Lol, okay let me be more specific: elaborate on “be strategic and plan out every movement.” What does that mean? What does that look like? Elaborate on “memorize your pieces ‘deeply’” what does that mean? What does that look like? What is your process for doing that?
