Timo is doing a very difficult job on the propellor and without scuba gear. Hats off to him. His vocabulary is also very good so I'm surprised with his mechanical skills that spline and bevel gears are not known. .
@SailingNV

Thanks :) and yeah, he is missing some technical words, probably it's because he's worked more with latin speakers and then more recently in Fiji he's been the one teaching the others (that he works with) so they've been learning his vocab hehe

@@SailingNV A thousand lines, almost fell off my chair, a bit of overkill if that is the Italian translation. Please ask him not to teach his English in Fuji as it might be copied in Auckland NZ. Down South they are never change on anything.

Loved the guitar music during the "Sol0 used to hate the water" montage! Nemo seems to be growing up fast. Treasure this time, you will be amazed at how quickly it goes by. Both of our daughters are in their mid-to-late 20's and it seems like yesterday when they were kids. Timo (the freediving mechanic) is such a hero. Hope the problem turns out to be that the splines on the prop have corroded.

We’ve seen Timo tackle many tough jobs but the stress really showed with this one. I know I’d need a pump and pipe to breath, without snakes joining me!!! Great to see the much needed family down time taken during such a difficult task. Fair winds guys.

That some hard work diving on a prop like that. There are various 'scuba diving floating air pump'. And some that are just hand pump ideas , prices vary a lot so anything might help. I think I would check the linkage very carefully before removing the prop! But if Tino already has experience with corroded splines he may be right. But I could it as it would ' shake rattle and roll, before finally breaking..... That sequence with solo was great fun, you should try posting to Instagram! Just been watching the latest Imoca's finish the leg of ocean race into capetown! Cheers Warren

We have now finally been sailing locally which has been so great! We showed a few clips from these trips a few videos back kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKnLZ6hsiq-fgrM (Ep. 46) and in Ep. 49 when the gearbox broke!! I guess that’s what these next few months are about… working out what else is going to break 🤦‍♀️🤣

Just found your channel! Loving this!! Can you tell me how you will prep the boat to sail shorthanded? :) Considering it's a racing boat that generally was sailed with more hands? :) I've subscribed and hopefully see you in Sydney one day!
@SailingNV
@SailingNV Жыл бұрын
Hey Vito thanks for watching :) We've made a few changes including adding a third forestay to give us more options for a range of sails, which means when short handed we can massively reduce the sail area. We've installed an autopilot, 2 of the sails are on furlers, we have a boom preventer rigged to be managed from the cockpit, and hopefully soon a babysitter haha. The main thing though is to use less sail when shorthanded making the boat more manageable.

Haha good question - at the moment we’re able to go ashore most days but there has been the occasional day when we’ve found a surprise somewhere - usually towards the back of the cockpit which is considerate of him as is easy to clean up ;) we can tell he doesn’t like doing this so have been trying to praise him a lot when he does do it because for the long passages he’ll have to… we’re keeping our eyes peeled for a patch of Astro turf to put at the back for him
