When I did PTACs, we would set the temp on the thermostat. Then squeeze the bulb in the middle with a channel lock till it clicks. That will actually get you by for a while. As always, we had plans to go back with the correct part. We sometimes forget, or the customer would say it's fine and not want the part. The would last for years.

You're absolutely right about ice cream being the ideal indicator of freezer problems. It's one of the first food products to melt, and if it re-freezes it's blatantly obvious, because all the aeration of the ice cream is lost - it becomes a solid lump at the bottom, and the carton will have at least 2/3 empty space.

I have noticed that the Penn A19 with the remote bulb for some reason have the issue far more than the Penn A19 with the fixed bulb. I prefer the ones with the fixed bulb far more than the remote bulb, just my two cents.

Got an 2008 Maytag fridge extra in the house it finally died today. I heard the compressor turning on and off a new noise. I touched it and it was hot. Cleaned the coil no change. Felt the line to the evaporator and the return to the compressor same temp room temp. Knew it was bad. Ordered a new spar fridge. Thanks for these videos i am a geologist but enjoy learning new stuff.
@throttlebottle59063 ай бұрын
possibly the compressor "start relay" failed, majority are solid state electronic type (since the late 1990's). they generally fail passing power full time to the start winding, but some fail open and compressor doesn't start and just gets hot, either way it sets there bouncing on/off the overload protector, it's not good for the compressor obviously and they'll never run long enough to cool any lines/box, if at all. but a 2008 model, who knows, if it has a full circuit board and thermistors vs. mechanical thermostat and defrost timer. now days, they're generally not repairable anymore and if you try it's just a pitfall of other endless issues (LG for one well known example)

9:07 - What is your method for setting the depth of that blade? Do you assume the other two are correct and compare? What is a more accurate method than guessing?
@HVACRVIDEOS3 ай бұрын
Usually I try and match the depth of the surrounding fans, assuming they are correct to begin with. Also some people just set the blade half way into the hub or depending on the manufacturer a little deeper. I'm sure the manufacturer has specific depths for each unit that could be used.

@josephconway19683 ай бұрын
Hi Chris. You have quite a few videos talking about winter charge. You have also mentioned that you guys don't really know what cold is. In this video, your ambient temp. was just under 90°, while you added refrigerant for the flooded charge. I'm curious if your approach to charging the system you're working on in this video was here in the Northeast, and it was 2° ambient temp. 2 things I feel would be factors with the cold. 1. Sometimes we had to warm the jug of refrigerant to get it out. 2. Would you be at risk of overcharging the system if you cleared the sight glass, then added the flooded charge? Basically, do colder ambient temperatures affect how you charge a system with a head pressure control valve? I'm thinking the receiver would hold more liquid refrigerant in the colder temps. Therefore, when it warmed up, you'd be overcharged? I do want to thank you for how consistent you are in your approach AND how you describe what you do. 😁😎
