In this video, IM Andrey Ostrovskiy continues the series on the French Defense with the second part of the Tarrasch Variation. This time, he focuses on the Open Variation. If white continues after 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 with 3.Nd2, we enter the Tarrasch Variation of the French Defense. The main focus of this video is on the Open Variation, where we discuss basic ideas, strategies and plans for both sides in the different lines after the move 3...c5.

In this video about the open central counter... 2:36 time Nc6 is played while black has a6 instead

Enjoyed both videos on this opening, but don’t see any treatment of the new mainline, after 3. …c5, 4. Nf3. This is the most popular move at the master level now, both pawns are defended by knights. Did I miss something? Would love to see an update with this line!

Most of the time 4. Ngf3 will transpose to one of the lines covered in this video. The only exception would be a move like …xe4 which is preferable for white, or … Nf6 which can transpose to a slightly different setup not shown in this video or can transpose to the closed Tarrasch after e5

@@WillStrong7 thanks I'll look into that. I don't see C5 very often so I should study that line by the way I am tractorsOn7 on lichess if you play there and want to send a message or maybe play. I'm not that strong 1900 is my high classical.
