You might think this funny. But I encountered something really similar in the north of France at a place called Havrincourt except he was the Mayor of the Town speaking to me from the window of his house! I was there to commemorate my great Grandfather who served in the British 62nd (West Riding) Division and died at the Battle of Havrincourt on 12 September 1918. I was there 100 years to the day and was wanting information about a town service to commemorate the war dead. As I approached his home he opened his window to ask me what I wanted. In french he said that commerative services were all done the year before and then quickly shut his window. I was both stunned and amused reflecting on how that moment reminded me of this scene in Monty Python. lol More power to John Cleese!
