The Friedrichwerder Church was built between 1824 and 1831 in the neo-Gothic style according to plans by the master builder Karl-Friedrich Schinkel. It is the only church building by Schinkel that has been preserved in downtown Berlin, where the facade and interior still correspond to the original appearance.
Severely damaged in the Second World War, it is now used by the Alte Nationalgalerie as an exhibition space with a sculpture collection and as a Schinkel Museum.
