Might seem kind of old-fashioned, but a "ride or die" kind of person is what I would consider a close friend. But since most people wouldn't place themselves in such a compromising position, you are not likely to encounter such strong personalities. For me, I'm happy to have 3 friends like this, which is why I willing to be there at their time of need.

To your point about: emotions gay. I totally agree and I think this really shows in the reactions of just guy friends when I start to talk about things that hurt me when I am, in a bar for example. It is like I broke a rule, an unspoken social contract. And, I also think that because men view relationships or platonic friendships with women through that lense, they start to beleive that THEY need a GF at all costs. I see people crash when they can't get one. Well, of course, if that is their only source of emotional catharisis, then yeah... of course they gonna feel like everything is terrible all of a sudden

for me close friends are people who i feel i can do activities with, people i can lean on and open up to, and people i can talk about random things or common interests with. tbh one of the best decisions ive made for myself was get a dumb phone limit my time on social media, spend time irl without reaching for a phone, etc. My imagination returned. i found it easier to talk to strangers and every day felt fun again for the most part. I had to put effort into getting out of my head when it came to social situations tho. a lot of attempts of trying to talk to someone and getting shutdown because they dont really respond, but the more i did so politely (important, dont overload people), the more i worked through social anxiety and got out of my head.
@not.por.u

the absolute truth. I more often than not see a lot of individuals believe they are losing their "imagination" (myself included at one point) or enjoyment of the present moment; However, for me I found it was simply just overstimulation through the usage of quick dopamine. The minuted I deleted my socials, and started connecting with more genuine friends I hadn't talked to in quite a long while, the more I found myself at ease and fully present. I am happy you were able to get over your social anxiety and back into the present moment, it definitely isn't an easy feat by any means.

This is something I really wish I understood going into college. I thought I was close to everyone I met and wanted to be close to anyone I met since I had not many friends in HS. Nowadays, I realized I came off as too desperate and also realized I didn’t click with a lot of them anyway. These “party” friends ended up going there separate ways and I don’t really talk with them anymore. I think college would’ve been MORE fun if I hadn’t brought the wrong people in too close. I’m honestly way happier with the fewer close friends I have now. I don’t see them as often but when I do it’s a good time and I know they appreciate me for who I really am : )

throughout life your social circle will inevitably shrink, that's as true as the lines on the side of your nose getting longer or the number of heartbeats being limited to each heart, but as you create meaning in life you get "busy" and you find it would be hard by default to keep up with as a wide circle as you had in high school

I actually only talk about vulnerable and personal issues with male friends. Idk who did that study... It's never gone well when I open up to a woman that isn't my sister or grandma. All those things guys are worried about are honestly more to do with how women react to guys being vulnerable. Not most men. Not a single male friend I have/guy I know confides with any female friend, peer, or even family member. Maybe that's just me or the circles I'm in but I notice more and more guys opening up about stuff and it being treated well by other guys. Then they tell that to their girlfriend and she leaves the dude. The romantic partners I've had for the longest are the ones I don't open up to.

Generalizing is bad, you can see a good friend if they care what you have to say or what you think either male of female. I learned this from young age and most people seem to not get it, it doesn't matter the gender of sex orientation or your worth it's a connection hard to understand but you can feel it. I only have left 2 male friends for life, but I think that's enough. I had female friends but they were extremely toxic and I could see through them, the only female friend that I could count on left the country ffs. It's a curse but at least I am with genuine people, they are like brothers. I only need to find a genuine women :'c .

@@GrimNHTl i just moved to a new city for college and got a free gym membership til the end of the year so ive been taking yoga classes as often as i can. Working out, just started running again. Once youre used to some physical exercise its a rly great way to decompress and has compounding benefits. Other than that u can find creative outlets like ive just started making random songs on garageband. Making friends is still a big goal for me, but like the video says real closeness actually takes a span of momths so im glad i have things to keep me sane in the meanwhile (without drugs)

@brian6096 that's actually great and I can say you're bound to meet people then and hopefullythe right ones for you. I don't make music but I dabble in writing as a hobby and play soccer when I have time or if the weather is tolerable. I'm a recent grad and more focused on a career and have less free time for socializing. Also I'm not really prioritizing a social life for now since I missed out on all college socializing lol, was depressed and lost.

my average day isnt designed to find new friends. and the places that I go regularly are bad to find friends and I would go through years without finding anyone. that's why applied to courses where other people are also there to learn smth specific, and for that I spent money. I saw it as the only way, and if I don't find any friends there I think I'm lost. Im also going to the army soon so that's a potential place aswell, I just hope I can find people that are not assholes, as online I read that a few couple of functions in the army in our country have a lot of really really bad people in them, and I don't wanna say the words so I don't get flagged by youtube or smth. It has to do with 1939 👨🏻

why are all these points so forced and strawmaned . i feel like you made this video for yourself in analyzing your own relationships rather than other's realities when those realities are too thick and nebulous most times to apply theory to them. although if you're in vapid circles (like fashion circles) you tend to see what you're talking about. I'm happy that you're realizing how superficial relationships built on top of materialism are. It's like watching sheldon cooper theorize about making friends.
