That's actually not true. It is possible in Australia for the police to stop pursuing a case because the claimant decides not to go forward. This is relevant in two situations. 1) the case is inconsequential and the cops can't be bothered with it. 2) The main evidence the police had was the testimony of the claimant, who is now no longer standing by that testimony i.e. they won't testify in court. It makes the cops look bad to spend a bunch of money taking a dud case to court just to lose it due to a lack of evidence. I know that's not relevance to this case but your statement dealt in absolutes and that's what I'm objecting to.

@@goingonlylogical I mean he's just wrong, the state don't need evidence from a witness if a cop directly saw the altercation, it's irrelevant if he does or doesn't because they still build a case beyond reasonable doubt without him. The weird thing about this entire interaction is that Ray was in the wrong. In Victoria, Australia, a car turning from a main road has to give way to pedestrians crossing the street the car is turning into. If Ray had been right, I would have sympathised with him more. Maybe the writers didn't know. Bad drivers tend not to. For anyone wanting to argue, the relevant statute is the ROAD SAFETY ROAD RULES Act, Rule 81/2. (Amended by Rule 5.) It reads: "Vehicles must give way to pedestrians crossing the road they are turning into when turning at an intersection or driveway."
@MrDeadsnake3 ай бұрын
im not Australian, but i tried looking the relevant statute and it states that it applies specifically to pedestrian crossing, meaning that there should be white stripes or a sign for a pedestrian crossing, failing to comply with rule results in 5 penalty units "A driver approaching a pedestrian crossing must drive at a speed at which the driver can, if necessary, stop safely before the crossing. A pedestrian crossing is an area of a road - at a place with white stripes on the road surface, or with or without either or both of the following- a pedestrian crossing sign ; alternating flashing twin yellow lights."
