We had a Friesian X who was 7/8 Friesian. He was 28 y.o. when he passed and was the most beautiful and kind spirit. He died 3 weeks after his best friend, my equally beautiful TB retired show jumper who was 30 y.o. when he passed. They loved to be with each other in life and now lie side by side .

I have watched several videos depicting the “Most Beautiful Horses in the World” and the Frisian’s are usually listed very low! I think these horses are the most beautiful, not just because of the look, but also their beautiful gaits! So glad that people have worked so hard to these beauties back from almost extinction!

The Friesian horse was bred as a war horse. And descends from the black northern European Forest Horse with later interference from the Spanish horse. He could wear knights with their steel armor and was himself armored with steel plates. He was agile, strong, threatening, not afraid, so basically the first tank. ( so not for racing ) The Greeks and Romans were amazed by this horse and immediately wanted to use it as a multifunctional. That's how they got to England. The Friesian horse is the real deal and a mirror to the past. Thankfully, it has been saved as a race and a living monument of humanity and its resources. You could compare him to a Harley Davidson of horses. These have also served as war vehicles. The Friesian horse was at the birth of the U.S.A. He was there. Greetings from the Netherlands

Does anyone have anything specific on "The Black Horse" of England? The only thing I have ever seen was the reference to the development of the Shire Horse. A book written about the early settlers of Wyoming makes a mention of Oregon Horses being crossed with "The Black Horse" creating an active horse of about 1200 pounds.

All horses, and long term as the Friesian horses along with the domesticated 'Woff -Woof' and household 'CAT' are inseparable from humanity. Through Husbandry we are inseparable. We should not/cannot fathom a moment without our precious. Friesian horses, are so many, and personal choices are so diverse-- Let it be, we have and continue to have the horse at our side, in field and battle.
