Truth be told, to be fair, it's Biden who's shameless for not dropping out. He knows he's way down in the polls ... it shouldn't even be close, especially for an incumbent president. Any reasonable, younger democrat could beat trump ... Biden should step aside. I'm not a big fan of Gavin Newsom, he's a corporate donor loving, career politician ...but he'd beat trump easily. I spoke to a co-worker who's in the Military... he was like..."he did a good job while President"...I said "have you kept up with ANYTHING regarding DT?" It's puzzling how someone in the military could support "bone spurs" Trump. I believe most generals and high ranking officials would not support him, but what I would call the "front line" soldiers might. The mentality at the higher level, as well as having to be more educated you need to be to get there, is the reason. A big factor the lower ranks might support him, is they don't like "desk jockeys" in command of their lives, so they see Trump as a kind of "alpha male" that doesn't hold back from saying what's on his mind. It's accepting emotion over logic, but emotion will get you killed.

This makes me more angry than sad. My family were MAGA long before Trump appeared on the national stage. When the Tea Party arose, I shouted to everyone who would listen that they were NOT small, grassroots or insular. They needed to be monitored closely. And taken very seriously. Any movement powered by hatred is dangerous. Having grown up in the 60’s in a far right family, i was all too familiar with the racism, the xenophobia, the homophobia, the hatred of anyone who isn’t one of them. Yes, they despise diversity. They aren’t just saying that to pwn the libs. Casting my vote for Barrack Obama for the first time in 08, I knew in my heart that if he were elected that would generate a new tsunami of hatred on the right. When Trump was campaigning, I posted videos of trump supporters. I got shit from the LEFT because “not all Republicans are like that.” Unfortunately, I was proven correct. Hatred of the poor, of immigrants, people of color, of LGBTQ people, of liberals (etc) (and everyone else) goes WAY back. Trump didn’t start this - he just tapped into malignant energy that is the right. This is exactly how they think, talk, feel. Nationalism is what they consider the sole exclusive and righteous version of Christianity. They won’t “wake up” one and go back to “normal” since this is who they ARE and always have been.

When Trump won the election, I knew it was going to be bad and it would change the trajectory of our nation. What surprised me was how it affected people who, throughout my life I considered and called friends. The day after Trump won, I had a few people call me up...not to gloat. Gloating was to be expected. Not to consul me, that would be asking to much. They called because they wanted to experience my "pain" firsthand. They all asked/said to me something along the effects of; "Wow, this much really hurt!" "So, tell me, how are you feeling" "How scared are you right now?" Seriously. These are people I called friends. One in particular would just say "Trump won" arbitrarily in a sentence while we were talking and then he would sit back and bask in the reaction. I asked him to stop, and he wouldn't. It was when I actually begged for him to just stop it that I realized that I had lost him as a friend. Years later every single one of them reached out to me to apologies. They told me that they were "wrapped up in the moment" or something to that effect. When I dug deeper, they confessed that they had lost so many people in their lives because they went full on MAGA. I'm naturally a forgiving person. Always looking and hoping for the best in people. Always willing to give a second chance because Lord knows I have messed up. I told them then, and just recently I said it again to a few who tried to re-reach out to me, to go away and never call me again. That I could no longer trust who they are. That, THAT kind of hatred, THAT kind of deep-rooted desire to see people hurt is something they need to deal with themselves and away from me. I not only lost a few good friends...I lost the memories of our time together. Because now when I look back, I can see the little hints, the innuendos of the MAGA in them just waiting to be let out. MAGA to me are just like child-molesters. The amount of time and energy it would take to convert just one is simply not worth it. Educate the young (why MAGA's hate education) and allow the MAGA hate filled people die out...its the only course of action. I no longer accept or associate with anybody who is MAGA. I'm not rude, I don't "engage" with them on any level. When they call, I tell them I'm busy. When I run into them on the street, I tell them I have an urgent matter to attend to...then...I go on with my life. some fights you win by not fighting...and some people best (only) quality are to be that person who is a warning to others that some things you do, you simply do not come back from.

It's the things you mentioned but also low self esteem, needing acceptance and approval from their chosen group (trump worshippers) so it becomes their entire identity. It's also a religious conservative upbringing in which they were taught to unquestioningly obey their chosen authority; to look to their daddy figure for protection and orders about what to think, do, and believe; they are to be the eternal obedient children.

And the belief that they need a daddy figure to protect them, discipline them, tell them what to think/do/believe. They prove they are worthy by being unquestioningly obedient. When you have low self esteem and you need other people to like you, approve of you, accept you, you blindly do whatever is required to get and keep that approval. Added to the belief that you have to be an obedient child to prove that you're worthy. That's what we're seeing in millions and millions of american adults.
