Kind of need to callout the misleading title and the conclusions, since this wasn't a deal directly between Sony and FromSoftware, this was a deal between Kadokawa and Sony, and the effect going forward for FromSoftware is very much up in the air. Yes FromSoft likely will be affected in the future, but the title is giving the impression that Sony went after FromSoft directly, when that's very much not the case as your own video shows. All the assumptions about "Playstation exclusivity" and whatnot are stuff you'd expect from a total buyout like in the case of game studios like Naughty Dog, and that simply did not happen here with Sony just being a majority shareholder for Kadokawa.

It is a relief somewhat that Sony has not outright consumed Kadokawa like some dragon. The thing that worried me as well throughout this whole venture has been the large amount of people talking about Bloodborne 2, but we have to acknowledge a couple of things here. One is that Miyazaki has mentioned that he is not opposed to a PC port of Bloodborne as he admires it as being a relic of the past and his second favorite. The second is that Sony barely acknowledges Bloodborne's existence as it was not as lucrative at 7.46 million copies sold over the lifetime of the PS4. Elden Ring by comparison has sold 28.6 million so far and its been almost three years since its release. Neither party have sat at the table with interest to situate a port/remaster/sequel. FromSoftware continues to experiment, try new things, and we know now that a multitude of projects have been in the works for them. Bloodborne is my all time favorite game. It's #1, but just thinking for a split second that FromSoftware got their hands twisted into this and pressed by a publishing giant for the pure sake of squeezing profit, I would be dearly, DEARLY worried for what would be in store for them under a Sony rule.

I see people saying this all the time about BB sales, but it makes no sense at all. First of all, 7million sales would be a great success under any circumstances but BB was also a PS exclusive that came out as a launch title for the ps4, so the potential customer base for the game in the first year (which is where most of the sales generally happen) was at its lowest possible point. Considering these circumstances, BB sold exceptionally well. There are more factors as well. BB was significantly cheaper in production than Elden Ring for example. So in terms of profit, Elden Ring NEEDED to outsell BB by several times to match its financial success in the first place. Souls games have also gained massively in popularity in the decade after BB. So the lucrative potential of BB is much higher today than the initial 7m sales might suggest.

Look, I'm in agreement with you because those are, to me, insane sales numbers and nothing to cough at especially for any game that is locked down to a single console, but being #12 on their list of biggest sellers was the key message Sony walked away with and they were not pleased. Mind you those sales numbers were also over a period of five years from release before the PS4 line was discontinued for next gen. Which is why I worry about the idea of Sony having any larger control and ability to pressure FromSoftware. Because they are by the numbers. Any and every corporation is. But they also have a nasty habit of chasing profit at all cost and nothing else to please shareholders short term, and that is the part which I prefer not to be the main driving force dictating these games.

I'm guessing because, relatively speaking, BB is a smaller time title. If the goal is money then it's easy to see why Horizon and TLoU got remasters but not BB. Not to mention with the DeS remaster people complained about the changes and while I don't know how much of this backlash was taken to heart I can't imagine it being a fully positive experience.

Horizon had less going for it and, it seems, did much better in the long run. Meanwhile hot PS5 launch title Demon's Souls Remastered seems to have sold less than the original despite Souls being more known. So if there is some internal hesitation to make a BB remaster (honestly I think BB needs a remake or a heavy retool rather than a remaster.), i can say I wouldn't be surprised.

If Kakao has the financial capability to purchase 100% of o/s equity, then it will have sufficient fire power to purchase 50% to get majority shareholding. Rather it is a question of corporate strategy and whether it would make sense to get 50% of the firm for Kakao.

The reason those games are exclusive to pc are because no one bothered to port them, either because they wouldn't work (starcraft 64, diablo for playstation, etc.) or because consoles literally can't handle them (crisis, etc.). Never once has a game been 'pc exclusive' because some greedy suits decided it for profit reasons. There are no suits because people either build there own pc's or someone builds it for them. There is no one company to hoard beloved IP from other platforms like sony does for console games. Sometimes it happens on PC like when 'everything-epic-games-does' happens but we also don't condone that whatsoever.

Obviously the exclusive risk and Sony meddling is a concern. As an anime and manga fan this is a huge win. I consume probably as much Anime as I do Fromsoftware games. It is the majority of my free time. I do hope Sony pushes some anime being made in the Souls universe or even an Armored core anime. That would be heaven. I am hoping it is more of an alliance as Kadokawa represents it as.

Been an anime fan in the west since the first time I watched Voltron and then a little anime called Dragon Ball. I remember watching Dragon Ball on channel 20 every Saturday morning at my grandparents house on their 13” black and white tv. I now watch Dragon Ball on a 65” OLED. How times have changed. Would love an Armored Core anime. Would be awesome. Even a television adaptation like the 10 minutes we got on Secret Level
