I geniunely think that if you'd skipped Malenia's first phase altogether, they might have gotten a lot further in the gauntlet. Before Radahn died, Malenia had barely done anything because she's so incredibly passive in her first phase, then she got hit with Romina, who's basically her direct counter, two rounds after, causing her to lose a ton of health. Basically, Malenia's a really bad team player.
