Oh man.. im super late to the party here, but that chorus line is really hitting me hard. 'cause i was young and thought I didn't have to care about anything, but now that I'm older I know that I should'. It's so melancholy but totally accurate and a very poetic way of summing up my life. The other line in the song, where he changes the tense of the words, also seem to imply that because he spent so much time not caring, it's harder to develop those feelings now.. and that's the part that made me cry.

I am an 80's goon - graduated 1985 in So Cal where we ALL played some instrument and were in a band whether you did actually play one (I really played mine and still do) and there was this weird almost underground thing where this style was kind of in with some crowds. I admit, I don't get it that well, but I was involved in a bunch of bands and these kind of remind me of wall of voodoo, cathedral of tears (post TSOL), and later (late 80s but we went to high school together in Long Beach in the mid 80's) maybe sublime or similar bands like them of my era. And I hear the killers influence for sure
