Another great episode. I was heading home to Shreveport from a run to Cincinnati during all that. My yard is off of I 220 around Bossier and Shreveport. It was closed for 3 days after the storm. I could see the super slab from my truck when I got back and not a patch of ice anywhere. But they kept it closed until the 2 mile long bridge over Cross Lake dried up.

I wear tri-focal too, only mine came from the eye dr. Unfortunately I have a wide bridge for the nose piece even though my nose is not that big, so finding plastic frames is near impossible. My last ones I had similar to Jack's only brown I took a number 21 bridge and ground the nose section wider with my moto-tool and they are comfortable but a bit heavy. The pair I have now, are the type with adjustable pads, that are wide enough,for my nose #22 but until I got the lenses in them they cost $350.00. They are designer frames, which I could care less, my lenses are hard coated, and have anti glare. I will say, they weigh next to nothing and they are very very comfortable and fit my face really good. So I guess in the end, you get what you pay for if you are willing to pay in the first place. I knew going in, it was going to be expensive and I do not have eye glass coverage on my insurance, but they do pay for half of the eye doctor's exam if you don't have the new type pressure test done. I could say, without my new glasses I could't see all that coming LOL.... Here's a nice tip, if you drop into any eye dr. they carry "clip on" sunglasses which fit just about any pair of glasses you have. For $30.00 or less, you get the proper clip on's to fit your glasses, they come on and off easily, they look like script sun glasses and the best part the lenses are scratch resistant and UV approved, and anti glare. There one you get at the Pharmacy or in a store, you have no idea what you are getting, and usually they don't last that long, Now that I can get really good clip on sunglasses to fit my clear script glasses I will never purchase prescription sun glasses again. Also what is nice, I took my scrip to wallmart and they made me bi focals for watching tv. However I can't read with them but boy is it nice not to have to shuffle through 3 tiny lenses when I want to recline and watch tv etc. Mostly I use my tri-focal now for driving and going out to the store, out to eat etc..

I got caught in a blizzard one time where the highway patrol closed the interstate and made everyone exit and get off the road. As soon as I got parked I called in to my "driver manager" and let him know what was happening. All he kept asking me was "when are they going to open up the road again?" like I am supposed to know when it will stop snowing and when the highway patrol will deem it safe to return to the interstate. Some people do not have a clue.

one winter in El Paso, Tx. we got @2 inches of snow and icy roads. up by the college they have this road that goes downhill to a stop light. people would drive normal and slam on their brakes at the bottom of the hill, but the icy road prevented them from stopping and they slid right through the intersection causing a lot of accidents. in a way it was kinda funny, people sliding all over the place, but also not so funny when people got hurt too.
@SuperBigblue196 жыл бұрын
Years ago when I ran 48 they would try to send me down to I-20 to avoid snow on I-40. I would tell them nagatory on that. I'm from the PNW, snow on the 40 is always better then ice going through 20 in Shreveport LA. I actually got shut down in OKC on Christmas day in a ice storm one winter. We talked a guy into getting us to a hotel & had a Christmas party Just getting to the Hotel from the parking lot was an adventure in balancing.

Fun adventure, my guess is that Mr. Broker is not going to be the collateral damage stuck in the ditch, Meridian or wrapped around or on some tree, or they could think, ' hey go out and try it, cause I got some more business lined up'. They got their clock, the trucker has a different reality. I suppose the worst injury the broker could get is tennis elbow from picking up the phone too fast.

Where you going westbound on the Sam Houston Parkway in Houston during this trip? If so, I pulled around you in a Sheriffs car with no top lights (slick top we call them for us supervisors). I honked (well, booapped at you with the siren) and waved, but, got no response. Just east of I45 on the Tollway. Was pretty sure it was you. Too much traffic to do anything else at the time (around 2PM). I went on north on I45, and I think you (if it was you) continued west.
