ABOUT BEYOND THE BLACKBOARD CHANNEL
Hi I’m Ran and I run this KZbin channel called Beyond the Blackboard on how to “live your best life” at GCSE / A level time and beyond. It’s been 10 years since I left school and I’ve crammed a lot in that time. I want to share what I’ve learned in my time as a Science teacher, working across many industries and travelling the world. To help you with questions like “how do I get top grades?”, “what I do after school?”, even “who do I want to be? If that sounds interesting subscribe to keep up with weekly vids and please do comment any topics you’d like me to cover :)

Thank you for this video, very helpful! I don’t have a lot of plans for the rest of this very long summer holiday haha, I’m staying at my house but I will be seeing family a lot after not being able to see them for 5 months. My aunt got a puppy during lockdown so I’ll be meeting him and my eldest brother just became a father which is very exciting! Have a lovely time surfing !

Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly ! 👏👏👏 I’m still so worried about when I revive my results because I have quite high target grades in most of my subjects and I’ve been getting a grade or two below in most internal assessments. I’ll feel like I didn’t work hard enough or put in enough effort if I see I didn’t meet those grades , when I have been trying my best in revising for all the subjects, particularly this academic year 😔.

Hi, I find your videos very useful and informative. I am a year 13 student and I am going to sit the autumn exams as I think that my calculated grades won't be the grades that I want, but I believe I can achieve them by writing the exams; I want to apply for medicine with foundation year courses and as we all know, these have a deadline in October: now my question is, if I specify in my application that I am sitting exams this autumn, will the medical schools wait to see what grades I get, even if initially I don't meet the entry requirements from my calculated grades? Will they wait and see if I do meet them with my autumn grades? Or can they reject just on the basis of calculated grades without waiting? I mean that would be unfair, I hope that's not the case. Usually the interviews for these courses start from January, so do you think they are likely to wait?
@beyondtheblackboard-alevel8984
@beyondtheblackboard-alevel8984 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Janet. Thanks for the comment. I think it will depend on your medical school so get in touch. One thing I will say is that they are likely to be much more lenient on entries this year as a) the new grading system b) less international students b) there aren't many 18 year old in the country at the moment. But how institutions deal with autumn exams will be up to them so defo get in touch :)

Hi sir! I have a question which is not related to this vid. So for my maths mocks I got a grade 5 (96 marks). The grade boundary for grade 5 was 82 marks. What could be my prediction in your opinion ? Thanks

@beyondtheblackboard-alevel8984 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Safwan. Thanks for the question. I just can’t say I’m afraid. It’s all down to your teachers judgement and how the moderation process goes. There’s too many factors at play for me to make an accurate one

Most likely depends on your chosen university, they may allow it they may not since the year has already begun and you've missed out on some content.
@beyondtheblackboard-alevel8984
@beyondtheblackboard-alevel8984 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. They may do but to honest I think they’re unlikely to do this as it would be very messy. I think they’re more likely to be more lenient on entry grades as they know they’re not as accurate as usual. But that’s just a guess I don’t know how they will deal with this

I dont think so as some schools just havent set work for yr 11 pupils. I think that any work after the school closure cannot be used as evidence so it doesn't matter too much in regards to attainment

I’ll try answer - you’re not screwed at all. Don’t worry! I think everyone’s in the same position of not doing much work, and rightfully so; we should be enjoying a bit of a break from work in these current times. You shouldn’t be doing anymore work for GCSE. Grades have already been submitted by our teachers and these were all done with work from before we finished on March 20th. However if you’re wondering about whether you should be doing stuff for A-Level, many colleges are setting/have set work to help you with the GCSE to A-level transition! If your college hasn’t set anything, you can always look up “A Level Getting Ahead Work” and use resources from other colleges across the country (make sure to double check exam boards and all). I’d also recommend using Seneca to get a head start on your courses. Hope that helps!

Hey Air blade. No you’re absolutely not screwed. You have time to get back on track for sure. Depending on whether you think you will need to take autumn exams or whatever I would advise doing some catch up work yourself over the summer hols in the subjects you’ve chosen for Alevels. I would cover bits in the GCSE curriculum that will be relevant to your A levels next year too (you can look up the a level curriculum online and see what’s on there). Because there is a level content that builds on GCSE content. But you have time to do this and get back on track for sure. And Seneca is definitely a great shout to get on
