Hi everybody, in this video I'm covering a topic that has been bothering a lot of you over the past month or so. This one's for anyone in Year 11 or Year 13 about to receive their school assessed / teacher predicted grades in August. A newspaper article came out (here: inews.co.uk/news/education/gc..., mentioned a third of school predicted grades would be downgraded. This has got misinterpreted to many of you thinking in moderation you will be downgraded by a third and has even turned into a very popular petition (here: www.change.org/p/boris-johnso.... I made this video because I don't want you to worry about this. There will not be a mass downgrade of a third and in this video I explain why.
If this is a useful video for you please do like share and subscribe as this will be an indicator that I should make more of the same! :)

Thank you! There’s so many rumours travelling around about our results and it’s making me very stressed. The government is unhelpful and unclear and my school has been silent, so KZbinrs have been my main source of fairly trustworthy information

Yes.Thankyou I was trying to explain this to people. I think what people should really be thinking about is that it is *33% or 30% of grades* being lowered and most people sit *3 A levels* . So that means * around 90%* or ( 99% depending ) of people will have *at least one grade* from *one subject* lowered from their teacher's submitted grades on average. In practice, though this could be 0 for a lot of people and all 3 A levels for some. That is not the end of the world but it does mean most people will be affected in some form by standardisation.

@@id004_5 Its down to your teachers. I'm not psychic. But if you were working towards a 4 you can hope you will get a 4. GCSE results I think are much harder to analyse and predict because there are many more students. A level classes could be like 10-30 per subject whereas there would be hundreds doing GCSE maths in your school. To know where you'd rank is much harder. Your teachers and ofqual are working with much more information than what you've given me so it is impossible for me to say.

They’re also going to rank I’ll the schools, the best schools which achieve the highest grades allow more students to achieve really high grades. The school which you go to will have an effect on you’re results I think. That’s what I’ve heard anyway.

A level student here. Freaking out because my school hasn’t been performing well but a lot of people in my year have done well, including me for the last two years. It just sucks that our grade is based on historical data of our school because I know I can do better. I understand that this is the only option they have. It just sucks for a few people like me and my friends whom have worked hard so I guess resitting is an option for me even though I really want to go to university in September.

Thanks for the informative video, I'm retaking GCSEs at college and last year finished my access and took GCSE eng and maths, the eng came out with a 7 and the maths a 3...i returned this year to retake maths and having spoken to my tutor found that she had predicted me a 5...so my question is that in theory if I was downgraded the most it would be, would be to a 4?

I can't say with much certainty on how much moderation will downgrade but for individual cases. The one grade lower figure is very rough! You will be able to find this info out though how much you have been downgrades

Hey I'm a final year college student who has undertaken both a btec and a single alevel, the btec was applied science 3.2 and my prediction was DDD and my entry for uni is DDM i was gonna ask since i have completed units and actual grades to work off do u think downgrading would be rare in the case of btecs?

@J4M1E.1 3 жыл бұрын
Ofqual will most likely look at your school’s performance, in exams, throughout previous years. If your school’s performance is improving, your mock grades probably won’t be effected. I hope you get the grades you want! :)

Hey Jin. Thanks for the comment. And thanks James below for answering. In fact although they will be taking into account last years grades, they won't be taking into account progress made by your school as it was deemed to complicated (which is a real shame as it leaves some schools unfairly represented)

Hi, I just have a quick question. I am a 16 year old student. Who was a private candidate who was unable to receive a predicted grade this year due to insufficient data. So I am planning on taking a mock exam next week so I can atleast provide my college with something for me to start my A-Levels in September. But the entry requirements for all the three subjects I want to take for my A-Levels are all Grade 6's. And I'm aiming for a grade 6 in all my subjects this week in my Mock's. But I'm just kind of worried that I might not be able to achieve a grade 6 in some subjects or maybe all the subjects and worried that my college won't allow me to do the A-Level I want to do if my mock exam results don't meet with the entry requirements. I am also taking the GCSE Autumn Exams and are preparing for those too. So my main question is if I somehow fail my mocks or don't meet with the entry requirements will my college give me a second chance to redeem myself in my Autumn GCSE Exams? And then how would I start college if I don't meet with the entry requirements from my mocks?? I'm really confused and need answers immediately. Hopefully you understand my situation and reply ASAP. Thank you

Hey Bozzman. Yes I know others in this position. The short answer is it’s completely down to your college in question so have a conversation with them. My guess is that many will be more lenient in terms of entry to courses as they realise this is a crazy situation.

In terms of accepting you Autumn exam results this could also be a possiblity but bare in mind these don’t come out until Jan / Feb so would be very late to pick up a new course
