So you book a vehicle online. You will be using it for an 8 day trip out of state and back. You have scheduled your time off from work. Your friend that you are visiting also scheduled their time off from work. The day before you are supposed to pick up the vehicle, the host cancels the rental on you. Now you are screwed as you scramble around trying to find another vehicle. Maybe you do. Or maybe you have to cancel the entire trip.

This unfortunately does happen. If it did happen to you, I am so sorry that it did. That is not a reflection of all Turo hosts, and that is why I stress doing research on the host’s past trips before booking. Freak accidents happen obviously, but even in those circumstances, a host can set a guest up for success in getting into another vehicle.

Thanks! It will show you what protection plan was selected, in my case it has defaulted to the minimum. It is itemized right before you book.

There are certain circumstances where they hold a security deposit depending on the circumstances. They usually tell you why and how much before you decide to book.

You would have to check with your personal insurance to see if they cover rentals. But in the past, I have always kept the protection plan.

It is dependent on the state in which you book, as well as other fees that Turo may charge depending on trip length, age of the guest, and other factors. You ultimately see all charges that will apply to your booking before you confirm.

Turo offers protection plans up to a certain amount maximum out of your pocket. Should you choose to use it. The plan you decide to pick shows up in the confirmation screen. Some personal insurance companies do protect you, but you will want to check with your insurance company to see if they do cover.

I've worked in auto claims for the last 8 years....Geico, Travelers, and now AAA. We cover damage to the rental. Just provide your rental agreement. If you have a non-standard (high risk) policy or you are insured with an insurance company that is small and not well-known, you do want to verify with your insurance that the cover damage to temporary substitute autos and rentals. The larger insurers will typically cover damages. A claim would have to be initiated with the Turo vehicles policy....they will most likely deny the claim, and that's when your insurance steps in. The Golden rule is "the insurance on said vehicle follows that vehicle," meaning THAT vehicle's insurance is always primary. Again, most insurers do not cover damage on a vehicle you are renting out for Turo....it presents a liability factor that the insurance can't properly rate because the drivers and usage of the vehicle can be infinite. That's why they typically deny coverage. It's a lot, but I hope it helps. P.S. you have to have comprehensive and collision coverage on your insurance policy in order for damages to be covered. If you have only liability, your insurance WILL NOT cover the Turo vehicle's damage

so we are thinking of going this route. usually rent from dollar or some counter at the airport. if you pay in advance and the person doesn't show to give you your car isnt that person a fish out of water? Do those things happen when you rent from Turo? what happens if your car won't start or something happens to the car you rented. do they bring you another one like the big rental places do?

All these things can happen. Host doesn’t show, car isn’t working right, or it may not be an overall pleasant experience. That’s why it is SO important to look at ratings of renters and verbatims to see the experience. Its equivalent to risks of an airbnb.

You want to document anything on the car that you don’t want to be held responsible for. So for instance, dents, scratches, fuel level, etc.. when you return the car, you will want to document the condition of it when you return it as well as mileage and fuel level.

Depends on the type of pick up. Sometimes a host gives you the keys, sometimes you will open by lock box, and sometimes the host unlocks remotely.

Since it is considered a debit card, I don’t believe it should be an issue. They accept all major credit cards, so if it is a MasterCard or Visa or something of that nature, then that should not be an issue.

I'm trying to book a car for July in Portland , Or. When I enter my phone number I'm told that a text is sent to me. I even put in my wife's phone number and no text yet. The Turo help is no good as there is only the chat and it keeps asking for a persona and I don't know what that is. Is there any way to talk to a person??

My only personal suggestion would be to delete the account you created if you can and maybe make a new one, if you are past that point contacting Turo Support would be the only other route. There also can be a difference using the app versus online on turo.com. I would definitely try both if you haven’t.

You will see a final total at the very end, and that is the only amount you need to pay unless you have intentions on extending or needing to change locations or extras. They offer varying levels of protection, which is explained in the video as well.

It depends on the rental, you can have a lock box on the outside with the car locked and the host provides you a code, the car may be unlocked remotely or you may meet the host directly. They usually will tell you which process they use!

We have a lot of people that want to use the cars for prom! The biggest thing is, an approved driver has to be the one to drive the vehicle. So if a parent is booking for the child, then the parent has to drive the vehicle unless the child is approved to drive by Turo.

I came back to look into it and was able to get to the confirm booking page, BUT on the account tab it says I’m not approved. I contacted support and they said I’m good to go and it’s when I do my first booking that I’m confirmed. Is that true? I’m not approved until I book?

I would say try going through the booking process and see if you are able to fully finish booking. If not, unfortunately, you may have to contact support to figure out what is going on.

In those situations, I'd submit everything to Turo and see if they approve you as a driver. If you already are, I'd suggest contacting Turo support and explaining the situation so you'll know what needs to be communicated to the host once you book a car.
