Never heard of this woman, Ruby Wax, until yesterday, when i discovered some interview she did with someone... I've now been binge watching a bunch of these clips, and have to say, she is one talented person. Funny as hell. Why isn't she more famous?
@Chillmax8 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm guessing you're not in the UK, as she is a household name in the UK & has been for over 20 years; although she took some time out recently as she wasn't well. But she still writes & performs & is married to a top TV director Ed Bye. She may try & make a big TV comeback, who knows, she may not want to?!

I'm from Norway, but I am a huge fan of British and American humour. Never ever heard her name or seen these clips before, so I find it odd that she is so talented and funny, and that i have never seen any of this until now. Seems like most of these interview clips are from 2003 and back, so people 25 and younger might not know who she is... was she ever famous in America?

Hallo! I've got quite a few of her shows on my channel, which are from the mid 1990's, and some very unusual ones that people will have forgotten, so do go to the My Video section and look through for her - Ruby Takes a Trip - is very good! No, she never made it in America. Also look for 'Girls On Top' - hilarious (although not on my channel) ;-)

she was script editor on absolutely fabulous. she was a stand-up comic. she was with the royal shakespeare company with alan rickman. she revolutionised the talk-show. she recently got a degree at oxford university for mindfulness, and she works for better mental health awareness for all. she was a genius who flourished in the late eighties/early nineties. check out her interview with clive james. check out her carpool episode (bristish version). she never was successful in america- her whole telly persona was geared toward the british understanding of americans being brash, crass, loud-mouthed... and i don't think the americans really got it. a lot of brits didn't, either. she should be considered a monolith of brit comedy/entertainment.

It would be lovely to be able to hear the interview over the piped laughter
@Chillmax Жыл бұрын
As this is a clip show you might not have seen them, but this is shot in front of a big studio audience, so there really are people laughing at this, Ruby usually talks to the audience during the show. In fact the BBC are famous for almost never using 'canned laughter', the nearest they get to that is when a show is filmed outside the studio, the audience is recorded watching & laughing as they watch it's and added in later.

Joan and Ruby seem like the same person from different multiverses
@Chillmax2 жыл бұрын
On the surface they may have some similarities, but as a long time viewer of them both, they're not really the same at all. Joan is much more focused &, in public at least, it's joke after joke, line after line after line, if there's no punchline, Joan tends not to say it. Whereas Ruby, when she's not reading a script, is very rambling, she could end up anywhere & if there's a punchline, great, but more often than not, there isn't. I think Ruby sometimes did a great impersonation of Joan's style, but Joan is always Joan, I still miss her.

@softlavender - Hi There, I'm guessing you're not in the UK ;-) That's the very famous (here) June Brown MBE, known for over 25 years as 'Dot Cotton' one of the main characters in 'EastEnders'. BBC1's flag ship, evening soap opera. Funny that you ask about her, only last night 'Who Do You Think You Are?' returned, featuring June herself. Thanks for watching ;-)

I adore Ruby Wax for her irreverence and cheekiness. She has he ability to make fun of her guests to their faces without them realizing how foolish they look. However, Ruby, my dear, it's nuclear, not nucular. (08:34)

@chillmax June Brown is indeed a national institution! Watched Who do you think you are and so glad they referred to her as Dot Cotton and not Branning as I hate the name Branning for her and much prefer the name as she is known by the UK population as Cotton :D

I think that's really her, but she was playing it up for comic effect; Dot can be both dotty & quite serious. I have seen her play a very nasty character on film, can't remember in what though, but in other words, she's a great character actress, and does what she's paid to do ;-)
