That is what they rely on. The superstitious nature of our minds, and the emotion we associate with music, lights, symbols, uniforms, marching and ritualistic behaviour. They want to condition us to associate it with them to maintain their power structures because they’re at the top and you’re at the bottom. Wake up.

As a piper who's played this tune hundreds of times on these pipes, and a professional maker of Irish pipes, I can explain some of what makes this sound so moving. The musical scale is tuned a bit differently from the classical, pop and commercial music we know. Particularly, the 3rd and 6th notes of the scale are a little lower in pitch than in conventional music, whose tuning traces to Bach's scheme to maximize the flexibility of the scale. He kept the relationships among the notes of the scale the same no matter which key we play in. But for pipes, all the notes are tuned to blend not with each other but instead to the deep constant droning sound, created by the big pipes carried over the shoulder. The result gives this a unique tinge of both joy and sadness that can't be replicated by conventional tuning --even a bagpipe would lose this power if it were retuned like a piano.

Isla St. Clair wrote a song called "When the Pipers Play." It's about exactly this sort of thing. How one can feel called to the past (or perhaps as if the past is calling and/or being called) when the pipers play. I feel like that too. I was actually privileged to be able to tell Isla that, in person, at the Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Festival, one time. That festival has bagpipe videos on KZbin too.

Watched in awe of this historical event. I’m no royal fan but give her majesty her due, she never put a foot wrong her whole life! And those pipes!!!! Ironically outlawed pipes playing at the longest serving monarch in history!!! I’m Scottish through and through and hearing the pipes and drums gives me goosebumps every time 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

As a piper and a Scot I know what you mean. It's ironic that the royals and English elite tried to eradicate gaelic culture but by absorbing Scots and the pipes in to their army, they immortalised it. So much so that the highland pipes lead the longest reigning monarchs funeral procession with the whole world watching. Not a fan of the establishment but respect to the individuals in it who clearly love Scotland.

What an amazing procession, watching such an historic event like no other, the bagpipes and drums sounded like they were calling out to her ancestors, going back literally hundreds of years, very emotional and mind blowing

Sorrowful but yet utterly magnificent, who else in the world could have done something like this? As an English born royalist of Irish heritage it stirred my blood to hear those massed pipes and to see those Irish Pipers alongside their Scots counterparts. With my ancestry I probably wouldn’t have supported James I, but I adored Elizabeth II. I fear we will never see her like again, but we must live in hope. RIP dear Elizabeth 🙏 🇬🇧🤝🇮🇪

@@drrd4127 When did I say the tunes were Irish? I said that there were Irish pipers in the band, ie Irish Guards by the look of them. As a Celt with an ancient ancestry that spans both Ulster & the western Hebrides, Scottish tunes speak to me as well!

I cried hearing them on 9/11’s 22nd anniversary as Woody.EXE, me and my family played them walking to the United 93 memorial we opened recently in Wales and it’s not open to the public yet. If only the victims families could have seen this and i could imagine Woody.EXE inviting them one day to join my family for the 23rd anniversary next year

I have to say, as someone from both English and Scottish blood, the bagpipes and drums always move me, and remind me of my late Gran and Grandad who were both from Dalkeith, growing up as a child in the Scottish hills as well as the North East of England. Very sad but proud day. What a performance!

There are not many things I have achieved that I am proud of, but I am proud to have taught some of those drummers when they were young cadets, and helped steer them onto the path of a career in the military. Also proud to know several of the pipers and one of the Pipe Majors, who were also local cadets at my detachment. They have gone from spotty youths to excellent soldiers and exceptional players.

I really feel we have witnessed the most beautiful & somber moment in modern history and it made me so proud to be British! The pipes were extremely moving and a fitting send off for our most beloved Queen. She was the only British monarch most of us had ever known. She so reminded me of my own Great Grandmothers, a generation who were so strong in the face of such adversity on our shores during WWII. She was the one great constant in all lives of British People - she felt to most like she was immortal but sadly we all pass at some point. She was not just a Great Grandmother, Grandmother & Mother to her own family but also to her extended National Family. Ma'am thank you for your unwavering service to the British People & those throughout the commonwealth - Rest well & in eternal Peace your Majesty. Queen Elizabeth II or as she should be known Elizabeth the Great. Long live the King. 🇬🇧
