Sharing for the (few) folks who haven't heard: Woody Goss (from Vulfpeck) interpolated one of Richard Tee's legendary piano solos and used it as the B section in the Vulfpeck song Tee Time. That solo is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omPQe5dsiMR4prM and it is absolutely worth your time if you haven't seen it yet.
@adm_ezri2 жыл бұрын
Woody also did a lil' piano tutorial on how to play in that style kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2XLn5qbpNqobrc

I hadn't heard of Richard Tee before that song, and after watching some of his performances like this I couldn't believe how accurately Vulfpeck recreated this very performance. Pretty incredible.

Richard tee is an absolute hidden gem. Most people don't know his name but you've already heard him, he was a high profile session musician who worked with huge artists (he played keys on Just the Two of us for example). Take the time to listen to Richard Tee's solo albums, they are an incredible blend of funk, jazz, r&b, and soul with equally incredible playing. Sadly they aren't on most streaming platforms so you'll have to do some digging, but I can promise you that it'll be more than worth it.

one of my favourite details is at 1:28 when he mouths "OKAY" at the band, as if they were letting him a variable number of 8-bars to solo and he decided to yield? this whole album is a masterclass. Most of the transitions in this show are smooth and instant, as if had every note perfectly planned in advance, yet you still have some indications that they were groovin. I just don't get it. It's awesome
