The field mice that invade my home every winter are damn smart. I have 3 live traps that my friends boss gave me that they use in their workshop. I'm guessing I've got about 10 mice in my house an I've only been able to catch 1 in the 3 months that I put the traps out. It's like these mice are little Einstein's an they know what traps are and they avoid them.

Looks like a more reliable version of the nalgene bottle we set up as an emergency mouse trap when up in the mountains. Oreo golden cookie for bait, we heard the thud of it going into the bottle, sneak up with a dish for a lid, snap on the flashlight and one mouse caught.

I have had trouble with the old style snap trap. The mice would clean off the bait (chocolate melted to the trigger) without tripping the trap. 🐀 until I started using a steel coffee can. A large 34 oz. can works best. Place the baited, set trap inside of the can, place the can on its side, open end towards the wall along the mouse trail. The can rocks side to side making it difficult for the mice to keep balance. Works good!

Mouse Cannon!!!! Then the German (over engineered) mouse trap ... those would be my picks. As for the one shown here, you might add a 1" to 2" strip of fiberglass around the bottom, held on with epoxy. That should keep the buggers from chewing their way out.

I've had mice in my house lately (here in London, England). No matter how hair-trigger I try to set my traps, they lick the peanut butter off them. So I tried gluing walnut and seeds to them but that didn't work either. Fortunately the poisoned bait works.

Looks like the plastic is very thin and was flexing as he pressed it with his finger, which moved the seeds around as it flexed.

You should try peanut oil on the cup, and with the feed, might make it harder for the rat to escape, or some kind of one way door, or some sharp wires that flex to allow them to pass one way, but poke them if they try to pass the other way.
