It was only after the public popularized his study, articles pumping out false information, fake scientists on the internet making wild theories, and the.... unfortunate bloom of the "omegaverse", did he debunk his study. In fact, despite being the researcher, people didn't believe him when he said "hey, this is completely false"; so to this day, there are still articles and theories up about Omegas and Alphas. He's made history, in an ironic and disturbing way.

It's a TAD more complex than that. What he saw and titled 'Alpha', 'Beta', and 'Omega' were in zoos, or some other captivity(sanctuaries maybe? Either way...), where there were multiple bloodlines in one enclosure, and when he observed them in the wild, he realized that dynamic was completely absent. It's real, but not in nature. Just in captivity, in very unnatural circumstances for wolves.

The thing I find the most hilarious about these movies is the front covers. Specifically Kate. She has this one pose / head pose that they use over and over again but they rotate her or flip her and it’s so funny to me. He was cosplaying as Haida (character he voices from Aggretsuko) and he was so kind and really talkative. I took a picture with him and we both held onto my Chococat plush that I brought along. Wolf packs are essentially families. A male and female Wolf pair up after leaving their respective families and then form a pack of their litter of various years. A wolf pup will remain in the back between a few months and 3 years. The idea of Alpha wolves was concieved with unrelated and captive wolves forming an unnatural pecking order. Alpha, Beta and Omega wolves don't naturally exist. Just that some pups may have more dominant personalities. Overall wolf packs are like humans nuclear family but with more kids involved. The guy who created the Alpha, Beta myth later did more research and discredited his previous statement. Wolf packs are prioritize the weak and sick during feeding.

Alpha and Omega had such a direct-to-DVD quality that I'm amazed it was actually shown in theaters. I can't believe they made so many sequels. I actually thought the first movie wasn’t that bad and kinda enjoyed it but they never should have made those other movies. They should have just made an actual sequel movie after the original. I actually wished we could have gotten to see a lot more of Garth and Lily because I believe they deserved just as much screen time as Kate and Humphrey. That's my take on it as well, I really didn't mind that first movie, I liked quite a few characters. The biggest crime to me (at the time) was the design of the wolves was just so... weird and wrong. But the story was fine, as a stand alone movie, and the animation wasn't terrible either. (I literally watched the first movie and I knew over time all the rest were being released but I never cared to watch any of the other "spin-offs", as they looked to me.)

@@marccamp6376 As a learning 3D artist (college grad of 2022) who is into making stylized 3D work, I have to say it can be tricky to nail down the 2D drawings to transition into a 3D model. I would take my time trying to nail the details down in the base model, and that's not even going into texturing, materials, adding hair, setting up the model that can be posed for animation, etc. Even knowing the process and I finished college, I felt like it wasn't enough so I continue to learn with personal projects, gigs and tutorials online. When in their natural habitat, packs are led by the mother and father and the rest are their offspring who stay for a few years before they eventually wander off to form their own packs. In their natural environment, what mom and dad say goes otherwise they’re free to hit the road. It’s only in an unnatural environment such as captivity, where wolves who are all not related are forced to live together, there will be a fight for dominance and a pecking order. To put it in simple human terms: alphas and betas only exist in prison.

It's not just parents who lead the pack, if they pass one of their remaining offspring can take up the mantle and while the now leader does take on a mate often times the leaders siblings can stay if it keeps the pack strong - they do take in the occasional unrelated wolf but it is less common The dynamics varies from pack to pack but overall its more a family group

Just wanted to drop in, I was 10 when the first movie came out, I was in the wolf phase of my art, and me and my best friend were obsessed with wolves. It didn't take much to impress two 10 year olds so we enjoyed the movie, but when we got to see the behind the scenes content for the movie, we were OBSESSED. The concept art for the wolves is seriously awesome and they have a lot of personality, it was a shame that they couldn't match the concept art better.

It is a big misconception that's being more cleared up as days go by. Wolf packs do have an "alpha pair" - the parents. A wolf pack consists of a male and female, and all their offspring. So the "alpha pair", the dominant leaders, are just the oldest wolves who created the rest of the members of the pack. The offspring are loyal to the parents, aid them in hunts, and help babysit future siblings borne from the parents, before perhaps one day leaving the pack to either find their own mate as a lone wolf, or lured away by a lone wolf wishing to mate. It's pretty cool actually, however the concept of "Alphas and Omegas" has been so overly sexualized in media circles (books, fanfictions ((Omegaverse)), etc) that not a lot of people really focus on the fact Alphas and Omegas aren't a thing, or don't care and just continue on with their horrible, horrible fanfictions.

Personally love seeing the ones where the author has everyone know that yes they know the whole concept is fake and mistaken for parents, but they want a unrealistic scenario to just see what some characters would possibly do in it. Honestly, i find the concept of omegaverse a bit weird sometimes, because i knew the fact that alphas and omegas don't really exist in that way first- But i also have taken the challenge of writing an universe where there's a hint of the same logic that omegaverse- fanfics usually have, expect it's just not every human ever, just specific ones that are a kind of subspecies and are more animalistic, plus they don't have that....weird anatomy stuff going on with...uhh....Males being able to become preggo and all, i would find it too weird if i went that way lol, anyways, it's definitely a concept that can be written well... Also the challenge of Bobsheaux, who could eventually stand out from the popular opinion of Wizards of Waverly Place (that it’s the greatest Disney sitcom since That’s So Raven even though for the low standards of teen sitcoms, That’s So Raven actually turned out a breath of fresh air) giving it a (mixed but mostly) negative review, especially because of Mason Greyback being the Humphrey (not to mention that Humphrey LITERALLY has a grey back) of the franchise by being the main male lead (at least in season 4) with his toxic masculinity mainly centered around him as a teenage boyfriend.

The saddest thing about these movies is that they actually had some potential at the start. World was interesting enough, had some fairly solid visuals, and I personally liked the designs. Original story was basic, but it worked pretty well, and overall it wasn't a _bad_ movie. Just kinda simple And then the writers decided to see if it was possible to create Hell on Earth, and we got the monstrosity we have today. Another criticism of the sequels is that it focuses a lot more on Kate & Humphrey pups rather than Kate & Humphrey themselves. It is usually the pups get into some sort of trouble and it is up to their parents to bail them out. The sequels, if you do decide to watch them, are watchable but you can tell they were made with very limitied budget and resources.

Exactly exactly what I feel too. Loved the first movie so much as a kid. But then when the new stuff came out, I was worried about how well it was going to be made…. and I was rightfully worried. My siblings and I only watched them to make fun of them, but everything was so repetitive and boring. • Kid A likes to be a leader. • Kid B likes to be independent. • Kid C can climb but is small or weak or something. • Mom and dad argue a lot. Mom and dad had learned nothing and continue to have no lessons learned throughout the movies (I hate when movies do this, especially when they ‘resolve’ a problem just for it to come back the next time as if they didn’t just learn and become a better person). • Little to no scenes with the girl’s sister and her partner, the guy’s best friends, the girl’s parents, the other tribe’s leader, etc; the few scenes they are in, no character development and their personalities either seem bland or over the top, and unlike themselves from the first movie. To be completely honest though, watching the first movie as a kid, and watching the rest as an older teen, that probably made a difference too.

Quick Wolf lesson: Basically the first person to write about the pack structure of wolves and proposed the idea of Alpha and Omega roles in the hierarchy, David Mech I believe, later disowned his own idea. Wolves were very misunderstood from the colonial years all the way to the 1900s, people only starting to learn about and protect wolves somewhere around the 90s. As we have learned more about wolves it has been discovered that there isn't a hierarchy based on what wolves are strongest, the so called "Alpha" wolves at the head of the pack are the parents of the rest of the wolf pack. So yes there are no Omega or Beta wolves they are all just young wolf siblings who listen to the pack leaders because that is mom and dad.

The idea that wolf packs are led by a mating pair of "alphas" is a misinterpretation of the fact that the pack is a family unit. The alphas are usually the parents of the rest of the pack. The reason the rest don't mate is because they're siblings. When they get old enough, they leave the pack to go start their own. "Lone wolves" aren't really a thing either, for the most part. They're just young adults looking for mates.

However, taking any animal out of its natural habitat will change its behaviors and a wolf would react differently to unrelated wolves than it would to its family. A common misinterpretation of this, though, is the idea that wolves do not have a social hierarchy. They absolutely do! All social animals do, monkeys, orcas, horses, even us humans. Some wolves are at the top, some at the bottom, and some in between. In a family unit consisting of parents and their offspring, the parents are naturally going to be at the top, because the young instinctively respect their parents. Here's a quote from one of Mench's studies: "Calling a wolf an alpha is usually no more appropriate than referring to a human parent or a doe deer as an alpha. Any parent is dominant to its young offspring, so "alpha" adds no information."

When you're designing characters, knowing what medium they're going to live in is very important. The character designs they showed in the bts would absolutely look great 2D, but that type of stylization is hard to translate into good-looking 3D models. This is why working as a team that can communicate and say "hey boss, this is gonna look weird in 3d, I promise" and trusting that person so that the designs can be reworked into something salvageable. This is why when you see DreamWorks movies that are based on books, like The Bad Guys for a recent example, they keep to the spirit of the style the story was illustrated in (if there were illustrations) but they modify it to make it more appealing in 3D (and also marketing, hard to market a movie if people think your movie is ugly)

When it comes to movies abandoning their initial protagonists, I thought Tinkerbell did it very well in the Legend of the Neverbeast - it switches perspectives to an established character with her own chaotic personality and gives a good reason that Tinkerbell doesn't have faith in her judgement (therefore putting the normal protagonist in the role of ANTagonist which is a cool switch tbh) so while you are following someone else if feels like the same franchise. It's just Tinkerbell's turn to let her biases affect her judgement. also even in the franchises weaker movies there are some fun character moments like the Garden Fairy's arc in the short Fairy Games movie as she finally gets over her dirt phobia. Also the finale of the neverbeast movie looks terrifying if you don't know what the beast is doing, so the other fairies' trepidation towards it unfolding makes sense.

To clarify that point on Alpha wolves: the concept came about from Rudolph Schenkel who originally wrote about it in his study "Expressions Studies on Wolves", and then was popularized by David Mech when he wrote “The Wolf: Ecology and Behavior of an Endangered Species,” in 1968. In fact Mech himself studied them further and came to a shocking discovery that actually disproved Schenkel's observations. The pack and their supposed "Alphas" were all blood relatives. The supposed "Alphas" just happened to be the rest of the pack's mother and father. Just a bunch of younger pups following their parents. Once Mech discovered this, he plead with the publishers of his book to stop printing it so he could correct this mistake. But unfortunately the damage was done and the "Pack Alpha" concept was popularized in media. He has been fighting to rid the world of it ever since.

Alpha and Omega is a perfect example of how some movies should only ever be 2D. Those concept designs look SO GOOD but the 3d design look God awful. Also it has always killed me how bad this series is, because wolves are my favorite animals and it's so hard to find decent movies where they aren't the villains with the exception of a couple movies (Wolfwalker's my beloved). Like if they had better animation and a tad bit better writing, the first movie COULD have been good. (not the sequels though, those are a lost cause).

As a 3D artist, I loved making stylized 3D work but honestly it can be hard, trying to transition from 2D into 3D without making it look creepy by accident. It's like trial and error for me. I have made some ugly models but I learned from my mistakes. I also watch people/professionals who have more knowledge in this skillset and they are able to successfully create some nice looking stylized 3D models, and I try to replicate that so I know what works for the character design and how to successfully reproduce it myself. I think the tough part is that on the base many 3D programs try to aim for realism (for example the lighting) but I want to go the stylized route.

Eyes ARE very important to relate to characters If they are too far apart or too close it looks uncanny. And big eyes arent as bad as is related to babies who have small head and big eyes, making it "cute" in a way. Apart from that if you check eyes design you would see how just a milimiter of diferent in position or zise changes the expresion severily, from surprise to focus, fromtired to sexy, etc.

In captivity it’s a bunch of unrelated wolves shoved together in an inclosure. In the wild it’s a literal family with the mother and father at the top and all the children bellow. One cat gets slaughtered by dogs, another cat gets eviscerated, and because they were leader, they die OVER. AND OVER. AND OVER. Nine times before they're dead. Because in that world, the whole "cats have nine lives" thing is taken literally at least for leaders. Cats die of infection, disease, there are BLOODY battles over territory....if Warriors were to have a movie it would NEED to be like Felidae or Watership Down. BUT because it would be animated, it would have to be geared towards kids because THAT'S ALL ANIMATION IS GOOD FOR RIGHT?! ugh.

Teen or R Rated animated movies are possible. However, like you said, people automatically believe that just because something’s animated, it must automatically mean it’s for kids! Even a Warrior Cats movie happens and the rating says R or 13+, parents will still end up taking their little kids to the movie because “iT’s AniMated! ThAt meAnS iT’s fOr KIds!” That preconceived notion is something that needs to disappear before a Warriors movie can ever be made. I’m tired of people believing that animation is only for kids when really, it’s so much more than that.

Yeah, I've read a lot of those books. A Warriors movie (a Chinese-British one) _is_ in the making and I think they're planning a more realistic look, but it seems it's gonna take a looong time to finish that one. This also makes me think of the Wings of Fire show about dragons that was being created for some years, but Netflix unfortunately cancelled it this year before it was even released. It looked promising and serious based on some concept art. That series can get really violent too and I wonder how they would've portrayed that, because the book series is also very popular with kids. Like in the very first book, one character commits suicide by burning alive because he had no hope against a seemingly invincible opponent who was going to kill him slowly for gladiator entertainment. And basically acid gets dropped on another one's head and eye, which burns through his eye socket and skull.

I actually didn’t mind the first movie, as a kid and I don’t mind it now. Despite the predictable story, cliched characters, and unpolished animation, it’s still a pretty cute love story about a guy and a girl who are polar opposites, but learn to bond and trust each other. Marcel and Paddy are charming comic relief and they never get on your nerves too much and the relationship between Garth and Lily is a fun B plot, too. Overall, a serviceable kids’ movie that I have a certain nostalgia for. 🐺🌕

In case people are curious, the entire "Alpha and beta, etc" thing is a myth based on faulty scientific research which was thankfully debunked by the very same author who penned the first study. The entire concept only exists in unnatural settings such as zoos where wolves are forced into cramp spaces where there aren't enough territory, and where most if not all of them are not related at all. Naturally, that also goes for humans. Don't trust people who say they subscribe to ideals like that, they are in most cases just very toxic people with a very fragile sense of masculinity or self, or they are just out to sell you destructive self-help advice. Edit: Author of the infamous Alpha/Beta behavior of wolves is called David Mech. He did thankfully realize his faulty methods and wrote several other scientific articles debunking his study. Stay informed, don't fall into toxic traps.

This ain't the full truth. Alpha and beta wolves DO exist in the wild. That's because prey is not unlimited, and usually only the alpha of the pack is allowed to mate and have pups, with the rest of the family helping in raising them. There is no pecking order, because they are not antagonistic towards each other, but there very much are alphas even in wild packs.

I think the people who want to paint wolves as peaceful creatures are forgetting the Druid pack, where a sister overthrows her sister and the pack turned on their lead female, mauled her to death, and left her to die. You can watch Wolves of Yellowstone here on KZbin. Ostracism involves blood and teeth and is a common disciplinary practice when a kill is involved. Wolf pups also starve to death because the hard code of survival instinct is "We can always make more." Wolf pups starve while African wild pups do not (partly because African wild dogs are some of the best hunters on the planet and also because they're more altruistic than wolves.) That's not to say that any of this behavior is bad, and yes, wolves cooperate wonderfully in family units. But they're not the end all be all of noble, cooperative hunters that never hurt each other. They're dogs, dogs bite, and wolves in particular bite hard.

It says a lot that Lily and Garth eventually disappear from this franchise, we can't have good things, apparently. I honestly liked the first movie. It was cute and fun, I really like the relationships they built between some of the characters, especially Garth and Lily. There were some moments that made me cringe a little, namely the "moonlight howl" scene with the dancing wolves, but overall it was good for what it was. I never bothered with the films afterward, I already knew they wouldn't even be a shade as good as the first one. Shame it tanked so hard so quickly, it did have some potential.

Just happened like this, the experience of watching it was pretty ok. No critical thinking required, I even liked it somewhat. the origin of the alpha wolf myth is wild. Wolf packs usually consist of two parents and their pups, but the myth came from a research done with unrelated wolves from different locations in captivity and they just beat the shit out of each other purely from stress. Basically imagine some alien kidnapping you, locking you into an empty padded room with a guy from Sri Lanka, another from Lithuania and another from Nicaragua, no one speaking the same language and having no way of escaping the room. Then the aliens study the result and make a paper about human family dynamics based on that (also, love the way they portrayed the myth in these movies, which is basically monarchy with all the "can't marry lower rank, is forced to marry another group to avoid war, very lion king-esque. Okay this could have worked if... 1) they made it a TV show rather than a movie series. Firstly that would allow them to reach a more mature audience more easily since animated series are considered less of a kids thing nowadays, so they can keep the more edgy themes. Secondly it would help them if they had less time to work with, so they would be able to create a more fast-paced production. 2) Drop the dancing. Maybe have some cool dramatic music for scenes but no more of the howling ball or dancing dinosaurs. 3) go back to the 2D style. It looked way better. Plus they could probably use some painting style backgrounds. 4) lean more into the traditions of the wolf pack, give it proper lore and history. Maybe explain why they have human names for example? Were they once humans or perhaps back in some far off era lived alongside them? What about how they work with other species? Is their a trade off they make with deer in exchange for meat? Do they have an intolerance for dogs and view them as traitors who side with humans? Are dinosaurs like historical figures to them? 5) this is kinda part of the 4th point but can we see more of the spirituality and supernatural side to the wolves. Ghost wolves and burial grounds are a cool concept. Give us more. Maybe one of our lead wolves could be the pack shaman and that could be a plot tool to explain the magical stuff? 6) Maybe drop the pups for a while. Slow stuff down and make their relationship mean something. If you need to have pups maybe start the series when they're really young and gradually age them.

@@renardnoir2581 exactly, sorry I haven't been active in this thread lately. The films tend to drag on with unnecessary scenes and jokes to fill the run time. But working with the more limited run time of a cartoon series they'd probably do less of this and give it a more fast-paced feel in the eventful or exciting episodes.

What's funny is I loved this film. Me and my group of friends have redesigned the characters and actually want to remake this into a series with an actually thought out story and more logical details (the first movie, the others don't deserve it) Edit; the series is still in the designing and writing stage. Once we have it set up, I'll link the channel me and my team will be uploading it as well as updates to.

I still remember getting the Happy Meal Toys of the wolves as a child and thinking they were so cool cause they could do flips and walk. Also they definitely should’ve stuck to a 2D style because the character designs look stylised and adorable
