Great to hear your thoughts here, Petrik! Bloodsworn has consolidated its place as my favorite story by John Gwynne with The Fury of the Gods, but I do think it’s a leaner story than TFATF. I do love my Norse inspired fantasy!

Thank you, Philip! Yeah, overall, I think I prefer the bigger and epic scope of Banished Lands Saga more. This is still a great series, though, for sure as expected of John Gwynne!

I enjoyed this ending, but it's definitely the weakest ending of the 3 series that John Gwynne has written. But considering what he's had to go through in his personal life, I'm amazed he was able to finish at all.
@PetrikLeoАй бұрын
I agree. It's quite a miracle he's able to finish this book on this high level this quickly. I thought we wouldn't get the book, and I'm sure we all would understand the situation. Definitely an amazing book despite some minor issues, IMO! :)

Completely agree with you Petrik,I was a bit disappointed of the ending,somehow it was rushed and a bit unsatisfying,maybe papa Gwynne has raised the bar too high with Wrath and A Time of Courage. Gave this one 4 stars on Goodreads and my favourite of the trilogy remains Hunger of the Gods. That being said,papa Gwynne remains one of my absolute favourite authors and whatever he writes next,I will read on day one. Currently for me: The Faithful and the Fallen > Of Blood and Bone > The Bloodsworn Saga
@PetrikLeoАй бұрын
Thank you, Ciprian! That's definitely my ranking for John Gwynne's books as well. Wrath and A Time of Courage was simply too good. This was still an amazing conclusion, though. Just did not live up to those two books, IMO. I wanted something more epic. I look forward to John's next books! :)

Very happy to hear that this series ending with a bang for you! Gwynne almost set the bar a little too high for himself with his earlier finales, those are so incredible. Good review Petrik. I am just starting shadow and really enjoying it. Plan to read all the way through to fury asap. I do feel it’s a bit unfair to compare anything John does from here to the faithful and fallen only because he may have written one of the greatest series of all time if his first attempt at publishing. Will always be hard to live up to one of my favorite series ever on the faithful and fallen.

@@roseNthorn Yeah, 3 young men raised in the wilds, but don't know better than to leave a sentry out while sleeping in dangerous woods, letting a bear slip right in. Then they act like little college boys when they're home inside the village, drinking like city boys and unable to talk to village girls. Felt WAY too YA.

IMO, The Bound and the Broken shouldn't be judged from the first book. The second book, Of Darkness and Light, is a vast improvement. If that book still doesn't work for you, then drop the series. :)

@Lily_JamesАй бұрын
That’s very interesting, I also enjoyed it a lot but feel almost the opposite. I love the first and second book immensely and I found this one to be the weakest because of the rushed ending and nonstop action in the second half which made the character development suffer. I loved the epic naval battle midway through the most, as far as action goes. Snaka’s appearance was excellent but I didn’t like how that developed if you know what I mean… also I absolutely adore that cover but what a spoiler, it would have been nice to have that moment be a surprise. either way, still an excellent and unique trilogy that I would recommend to fantasy readers. Thanks for the review, love seeing those on booktube.
@PetrikLeoАй бұрын
Yeahh! I feel like the conclusion to Snaka is such an easy way to finish a battle the protagonists cannot win. The battle at Wolfdales was the climax and best part of the series for sure! And you're right. The cover art is definitely a spoiler here! xD
