Great to see the US joining in the rebirth of rail services worldwide. Of course, for long haul distances across the continental US plane travel will remain the mode of choice, but given the energy efficiency of rail travel, updates to trains and track (including new high-speed routes) are a very good deal indeed for short and medium haul routes. Let's hope that the air-travel lobby gat that message and back off when it comes to investment decisions by government - but I won't hold my breath.
