The Future of Cycling (4 Predictions) | Eurobike 2022

I attended Eurobike 2022 recently. It was a great experience to see how the cycling industry has developed, and I'm excited to see what the future holds. There is so much to look forward to if you're enthusiastic about bikes. Cycling is not merely a sport but a way of transportation as well as a delivery tool, a rehabilitation tool, and a very efficient way of getting around.

How have I not watched this video already? This is a really great summation of the future of cycling. And it's definitely going to be predominantly "e" outside of the roadies and mtb'ers for commuting and utilitarian purposes. I am almost surprising myself by saying this, but I am now seriously considering buying a long tail cargo e-bike! I have been looking into the options for an e-bike for some time and because I'm taller than the average bear, there was very little available in sizes for tall people so just about every shop I enquired in always said they'd look into it and get back to me. I haven't heard from a single one since. So I was considering ordering something like a good strong 62cm frame touring bike and doing my own conversion on it. But I discovered a supplier actually just yesterday who could special order a limited range of large frame e-bikes and cargo bikes and informed me that the government has allowed up to €3,000 off cargo bikes in a bike to work scheme. Because it would ba special order I could be waiting a long time for it if I go ahead with the purchase. Nothing decided on yet and I still have to arrange a visit to the shop but suddenly a top brand cargo bike is much more affordable than I imagined and definitely a serious possibility. I'm still going to own a car no matter what, but hopefully it will parked in the garage for the majority of the time and only be needed for mostly longer or other occasional trips. An e-bike makes a regular 20km commute much more achievable for someone like me plus the opportunities to do much more with it too. I wouldn't want to give up on my good old manual hybrid but "e" will allow me to do a lot more. Very informative and very pertinent video to where I am now as I was watching it. The costs of e-bikes has always been a bug bear for me. I wonder has the prevalence of so many government subsidies particularly in Europe allowed for an intentional inflation of the prices as well??? Just throwing a little conspiracy theory into the mix. By the way, who came up with calling normal "pushbikes" acoustic bikes???? If anyone doesn't like the older fashioned term of pushbike, I think "manual" would be an appropriate and logical alternative to describe everything that isn't an electric motor assisted bicycle of any kind. Just throwing in a personal pet peeve at the end.

Components should be standardized to ease repair, it seems some manufacturers don't want riders to modify or repair.

4:14 Man I can't find any information online about that Carlos folding bike... But dang it looks Soo good and compact! Do you remember the model and make? It looks to be exactly what I'm looking for in a bike!

Their webiste is carlosmobility.com/ I can't find that particular bike on their site, but you can get in touch with them to see when it's due to launch. I found the design very intriguing, but I didn't get to talk to the folks, unfortunately.

Very innovative designs. But, they are hard to find information on and are mostly unavailable in my country (Canada) or the US. The selection here is limited and a lot focused on performance. Also, I find that buying bikes from Europe is challenging (the chinese are more willing). The urban cycling market is maybe underserved. The other issue is theft. Spending money on quality is reasonable as long as you not a victim of this (there is no way to make a bike theft proof unless you keep it inside).

Germany bragging about wooden bikes- no surprise- anything to kill a tree and make money🤡and only a robot would believe an electric bike will make you sweat less🤡it’s the outside temp that makes you sweat, but then again maybe Europe doesn’t know that yet, but living in Florida you do. I think the wealthy engineers should have focused more on keeping riders cool.
